MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

Thanks for the suggestions - I went on there and have been accepted to the groups, SoILMom. Very helpful!
We just got the call on Monday, SoILMom. It hurts. So much. It also hurts - not knowing, nothing.
My son's girlfriend just received the form letter informing us of his impending graduation PIR, for 11 Aug. This is torture and heartbreaking.
My son has been at SEPS for one week now, his first weekend there. He describes it as one step above prison (he imagines) and because the majority of the group is undisciplined the rest lose their privileges. No books, tv, phone calls, or recreation. What else are they supposed to do to stay sane? I'm upset but praying for his strength through this trying time and for God to place his hand on my son.
JTNavyMom, Alpha (A) and Bravo (B) designate which compartment on Ship 5 your recruit is in. You do not need to include that in the address. The address is:
SR LAST NAME, FIRST NAME
SHIP #5 SEPS MALE or FEMALE
3610 ILLINOIS STREET
GREAT LAKES, IL 60088-3118
I left additional info for you on your My Page.
Oops! I am new to this and sent this as a message to all instead of posting here. Sorry.
My son arrived at boot camp on Tuesday June 6, 2017. He called me Monday night and told me he had been moved to Ship 5 for separation. He said that they took a 300+ question test and based on the results they say he has ADHD. What? This totally took me by surprise. He said they advised him that he could appeal it or go home, see a doctor and see if he really does, get a job and in 6 months and can go back through MEPS. I have spoken to his recruiter and he thought this was strange too. I found this group through the Navy Moms page and was glad to see that he is not the only one, and I am not the only mom taken back by this. He said it would be 2-4 weeks before he will know when he can come home. He said it's not a dishonorable discharge, they called it an Administrative Separation. Do not know the code at this time. Will ask if he does when he calls again. He said he still wants to be in the Navy but would rather come home and do what they said then to stay and appeal it, because there is a guy there that has been in the appeal process for a year.
movielover, it can be any day of the week depending on when the then former recruit is processed out. You should receive notice of when it will be.
