Hello everyone, Have just added a new group called Los Angeles Region.  We are going to try to have our first Meet & Greet Jan 21 somewhere near Santa Monica or the 405 & 10 intersection.  More details to follow.  Would love some help and members.  As we get closer to the date, I will come back here and give more details.

Los Angeles Region

I know it is far away, but my son is PIR in Nov, then there is Thanksgiving and the Holidays,,, and before you know it, it is January!  Please pencil in the date if you think you can make it.

Thanks JI-ISmom - it's good to hear from someone whose gone through PIR at Thanksgiving.  I was wondering if he may end up staying through the entire weekend.  I'll have to look into the cost of staying all weekend long and see if I can swing it.

Hi Jenn, I have been through 2 PIR's and flew into Milwaukee both times. Great airport to get to GL. I also had a son Grad on Thanksgiving. They gave them from Graduation until they had to report on Sunday with the families so we had him for almost 5 days. He flew out to his A school on the next Monday for Virginia. I have no idea if they plan on giving them that much time again this year, but it turned out wonderfully for us last year since we weren't scheduled to fly home until Sunday afternoon.

Thanks NavyMomJeg - I've heard good things about the Milwaukee airport so I'm hoping that they all prove to be true.  I think I'm mostly nervous about the possibility of driving in bad weather.  I've lived in SoCal for the past 20 years - I think I may have forgotten how to drive in the snow.  I will check with RTC on Facebook - I hadn't thought of that.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Good luck on you're trip. We flew in and out of Midway on Southwest and wished we had gone to Milwaukee. Our son graduated on a non-holiday week (9/30/11) and was shipped out the morning after PIR. Have you checked with RTC on Facebook to see if they have any answers? They are usually very helpful!

My son is graduating on Nov. 23rd.  I'm flying out of SD into Milwaukee on Southwest on Tuesday early morning and leaving to come home Friday afternoon.  I would have liked to wait to leave until Saturday but the flight was about $400 more and I just couldn't afford that difference.  I booked a room at the Navy Lodge ($65/night, no taxes), just need to rent a car now.  Not sure how long we actually get with the kids - I think it just depends and could all change.  My son will be going to A school in Pensacola so I'm anticipating he won't leave right after graduation (although I know it's always up in the air) so I think I will have Wednesday after grad with him and then all day Thursday since it's a holiday until he has to be back on base.  The million dollar question all of us with PIR on the 23rd are asking is if our kids will fly out to school on Friday or on Saturday.  Nobody knows and we probably won't know until our SR's tell us before PIR.

Is anyone elses kids Graduating boot camp on Nov 23rd??  HOW are you getting a flight during Thanksgiving week and where are you staying and how long do we get with our kids??

Ok, here is the deal, if anyone else from South Bay or even close, wants to carpool, I may be willing to commit.  But, there is no way that I can drive down from LAX area after work, be there by 6:30 and drive back up.... so.... looking for a good Navy Mom car pool.....
