Here is a link that you will need to check out. It is a FAQ about PCS moves and what $$'s are available.

My Base Guide

Space A Travel Eligibility
Ok, this is a very important link and I hope it stays valid if I forget to update it. Just so everybody knows, legal dependents are now allowed to travel Space A while their military sponsor is on deployment orders. If you don't know what this is it is very simple. You can fly at little cost almost anywhere in the world on a government aircraft. You sign up on a list and wait for your number to be called. So, if your sailor is deployed to say, Japan, you can jump on a Space A flight to Japan for say 30 dollars. I don't know the exact amount, but it is cheap. Take a look at this, Google Space A travel, you will get all the answers you need. If you have more questions, ask.

Suzette,
It really depends on your funds as to where you want to live. I would suggest taking a look at the where to live part of this forum. I would also highly recommend coming down here when your hubby gets here. You will be able to see him and you can drive around P-cola and look at different places to stay. Right off base there are a lot of rentals. That is where I have a place but there are places all over for rent. It is really where do you want to live, how much do you want to spend and how far your hubby wants to drive to work once he gets his brown bagger status.

Also, the wives on here meet at one of their apartment complexes for coffee once a week. I haven't been there because I am still moving stuff down. I would suggest going to that and meeting some people from the forum. They may be able to help you find a place and answer questions.

Krystal - it all varies depending on the person. Some people have a long wait before they are classed up for their A-school and some don't. If you're not on any type of timeline, especially if he's going to be here for so long, I would start looking but I would just wait until he gets down here so he can find out the details of your specific situation. What's his rating? My husband is ATI and his class is only 4 months long but we're looking at being here 9 months to a year due to the other schools (ATT and AWAT) that he has to take before hand and plus just waiting to be classed up. We've been here officially a month so far and hasn't even come close to starting class yet. So if you're not in a hurry (house sold, lease ran out, etc) I would just give him time to come down here to find out the details. I'd definitely check out the "where to live in pcola" discussion though and start looking at places. Hope that helps.

I was wondering about housing in Pensacola. My husband is going to be based down there in June. His PIR is on June 4th. His A schooling is supposed to be 2 years long, maybe a little less. I keep getting different stories about me being able to go down there with him, Because we havent applied for base housing. I'm only 17 and really confused about everything with housing and stuff. Can anyone help?

lauralou,
feel free to look around here. There have been tons of questions like yours.

You can pretty much count on being able to see your husband alot of the time if you move down here if that is what you are wondering. There are a lot of spouses (read wives) down here. I have only met one other husband! You could come this week and be able to see him. Check out the group Sailors in Pensacola forum under Arriving in P-cola. Here is the link.

Arriving in P-cola

You will find most of the arrival info here and it should answer a lot of questions about the steps he will be going through. Just remember, you are a spouse so some of the stuff people may tell you may be different for you because of your status.

If by commands you mean orders again that will depend on his rate and when he classes up. Classing up can take months so plan on him being here for a while. He will get all the info on where he will get his permanent duty station while in class. I have found that Pensacola is limbo for everyone, spouses included so just enjoy the time you can spend with them down here.

If you can, move down. There is a lot of free time at night and if you are here he can spend it with you and your children if you have any. Pensacola is a decent place I think. So far anyway. My wife has been here since the beginning of March end of Feb. and we like it. So far the weather has been nice, not too hot yet and not cold like Iowa (where we were before here).

If you have any questions feel free to ask them here. Somebody can hopefully help you. Also, if you know more spouses with sailors coming down here let them know about this forum, the more the merrier.

Depending on his rate will be the factor deciding when he will get classed up.

My husband leaves wednesday ;his a-school which is scheduled to be 6 weeks long. About how long will he actually be there and when will be good for me to visit him? I didn't know if there was a certain point where he would have more liberty to do what he wanted or what. Also is there a certain point where he will get his commands so i can know where he will be based? Sorry i have a lot of questions I am just trying to figure it all out lol
