My Base Guide

Space A Travel Eligibility
Ok, this is a very important link and I hope it stays valid if I forget to update it. Just so everybody knows, legal dependents are now allowed to travel Space A while their military sponsor is on deployment orders. If you don't know what this is it is very simple. You can fly at little cost almost anywhere in the world on a government aircraft. You sign up on a list and wait for your number to be called. So, if your sailor is deployed to say, Japan, you can jump on a Space A flight to Japan for say 30 dollars. I don't know the exact amount, but it is cheap. Take a look at this, Google Space A travel, you will get all the answers you need. If you have more questions, ask.

Amber,
I haven't heard from her yet today. As of yesterday nothing new and no news about phasing or anything. I know she had a test today but that is about it.

Where is your apartment? If they have more available send me the info. I am still looking for a place down here. I am still in P-cola too. I have heard it is a three day weekend so I am staying to find out!!

Go to apartmentratings.com to check out reviews of apartments. Were not at NAS were supposed to be at Corry, im not so sure where anything really is but Bing has great maps and birds eye views of actual areas so if you find a place bing it lol ;) Good luck!

Thanks for the info.
Now to my next question. It was mentioned earlier that living next to NAS may not be nice.
What are the good areas of P-cola? Are there any areas that you gals would definitely not live in or close to?

There is a soldiers and sailors act that per fair housing makes most every apartment compex and almost every property that is profesional managed hs to honor. Some have a statement that they must be there at least 6 months. Other s require 30 days on short term orders. We havnt had any problems with that. hopefully you wont either. Try and stay with an apartment community and away from private owners if you may come up against orders within the time frame. I know it on both ends. Working for an apartment community it would be tough if a boat was moving we would have 50 units or so coming avail and would have to run specials to get them rented. Good luck! :)

ok, so now I have to ask. What is the military clause in a lease and do all leases have it or do you have to ask? Are apartment/condo/house owners reluctant to give you a military clause? I have never heard of that before so I am interested to know more about that.

Oh and thanks for all the good info. This is great stuff to know. I really want to just move down here and stay while my wife is in school.

It really is, Its like you wake up for work everyday and say ughh i miss being a stay at home mom, now my son goes to school everyday and i look around and go ughh i wish i had something to do! lol Thats something thats tough, my job always is second and his is first. Im greatful but its like you have to work knowing its nothing permanant.. Hopefully our next base is our last. Hes been in for 10 and if we go back to VA we have a good possibility to finish out 10 in the Hampton roads area. :)

Im not there yet. I will be in April.. We just sign a 12 month but have a military clause, I would love to rent from a private owner because the home prices are excellent in that area. Unfortunatly they usualy have high deposits and the cost of utilities for a home are a bit excessive for a school duty station. If we were going to be ther 2 + years it would be worth it. The place I found has a home feel not an apartment feel. I got the info from another girl here in N4M. :) Its about 15 from corry. I dont mind being far from base as most areas close arent that safe. Plus we have a dog and 6 yr old! I am actualy a certified property manager and I have worked for luxury apartments up here in CT and as an office manager. We sold one of our cars for the time being and decided to wait to buy another until we go to our new duty station. He may buy a beater to drive back and forth for a while. I would love to work part time to keep my sanity :) I really miss work about now lol
