He said there is a sign up sheet for things like, helping at Ronald McDonald House, beach clean up, things like that. He had a Marine friend come over Saturday and that is who he went to the zoo with so they can have visitors.
Mine's school (she's a 4 year) was 9 weeks for A school, went on hold again for 3 months, then classed up for Ops school for another 9 weeks. Then there was a 2 week overview class.
Mine has only been there a week and I'm already sending his clothes. He went to the San Diego Zoo yesterday and said they ride trollies around town. He's at the Anti-Sub warfare base in San Diego. They told him his schools would last about 6 months.
GoNavy, My daughter was in San Diego for A school, and it was three weeks till she classed up, others did sooner, others later, just depends on how many students show up. It appeared to be chosen randomly. I don't think visiting mattered, but the phasing up for their privileges just gives them more time away and civie privileges to spend more time with you. Your sailor will know, they will tell them. I can't remember what the time frame was. Seems like it was a few weeks till phase 2 and then another few till phase 3. They can have computers at any time. Mine arrived with hers, we gave it to her at the airport after PIR.
She absolutely loved San Diego. :) It's a very small, laid back base, and they can walk just about anywhere and take taxis where they can't. Taxi's are expensive, most of her expenses were that. She's in Virginia now at Norfolk, and it's enormous and she misses the family feel of San Diego. Good luck to your sailor!
Anyone know how long they in A school before they "class up" to being able to have visitors / wear civies / get their computers...etc.??? Thanks!
My son arrived in San Diego last Saturday and said they only have about 6 students and have to have 20 to start classes, so he has been out sight seeing and doing volunteering at different places. Very relaxed there.
debmil24, that sounds great. My son can't wait to get back to CA. Especially San Diego, lucky kid. I guess I should say my son cannot wait until he finishes bootcamp!
