Thank you Sharla  That sounds really neat. He signed on for six years so maybe he does have c school. Have you been out to San Diego? I may go see him when he is there, Chicago is too cold to visit now.

Scubed, my daughter's A school was 9 weeks, and it said that on her papers as well, so you may want to look on his.  She is a 4 year, so she did not have C school, but she will have Ops school.  Supposed to start that next week but her class got cancelled, so it may not be till March.

One thing really cool, she and 40 other students there on base in San Diego that are on hold for Ops, got picked for a 30 day training underway.  They reported to a ship earlier this week, they are living on it, rotating through the sonar room, engineering, and the deck crew, and getting hands on experience with the actual equipment as time allows.  Learning how to live on a ship.  And they will go underway next week for a week, back in for a week, back out for a week.  Getting a taste of it before real deployment, and I think that's awesome.  She won't be such a green newbie when she goes to her ship later.

Which is good, because the first two days on this ship.....she got lost constantly. LOL.  She said it's a huge maze and SO confusing.  One night when most of the other sailors weren't back from leave yet, she practiced her routes while no one could see her looking lost.  :)

My son is in att school and I know he will go to A school in San Diego next. How long is A school and will he also have C school?  If so, how long is that?  Thank you.

Our son has classed up for C school a month ahead of time! He finished A school in Sept and is very happy to be making progress. But he'll be so busy now, we'll probably not hear from him much. We live in Hawaii; if anyone has q's about anything, feel free to message me. If you have military or DOD id, there are also beautiful beachfront cottages in Waimanalo and cottages in Volcano on the Big Island. Also the Army Rec Ctr on Pokai Bay on Oahu.

Karen- My Sailor waited for about a month before school started. She kept busy, though, working and volunteering so the time went by quickly. Once it happens, though, they are BUSY. She said school and studying took up at least 12 hours of her day. Our daily messages/convos dropped to once or twice a week!

Baglady - As a former Travel Agent all I can say is BOOK IT! The Hale Koa is plain jane as far as hotels go. BUT, its on the best part of the beach in Waikiki. Also, if you have time I recommend day trips to the other islands. Kauai is my favorite.

C school follows A school.  A school is the basics.  C school is to learn the system that they will actually work with at their first duty station.  That's why they typically get their first assignment before C school so they learn the correct system.

my daughter is 4 year as well.  They have an ops school before going to their ship, which as I understand it is more specialized and hands on with simulators, whereas the A school was all academic with terms and such.

My daughter's A school started just a few weeks after she arrived in San Diego (September), but she had friends that started immediately and other friends that started later.  Seems to be a random block of names that are chosen each week.  Her A school graduated in December, and she got her orders, with Ops school starting Jan 21st through April, and then going to Norfolk.  Yesterday, she found out that they are pushing another class through and her Ops class got cancelled.  So she doesn't know when her next ops school opportunity will be, maybe not till March, which will then push out her orders.  Is C school the same as Ops school?
