Jillymom. How is that face book site named? I'll see if I can join. Thanks!
I'm in a FB group for STGs, but not one for moms. Lots of salty old sailors and they are a hoot. The easiest way to blow money is in the bars for those over 21. There are discounts everywhere for active military; there are also those who target the military with things like new car discounts and take advantage of their financial naivete. They are offered things like deferred payments (bad idea!), etc. And, since they usually haven't established credit yet, they put in hidden fees. My AF son had an extra monthly fee on his phone bill because of that.
Suzbee, I am happy for you that your PIR is this month! You must be on cloud 9 counting the days. Coming from SoCal I can vouch that it is easy to spend money there. Good caution for the SRs. I am not aware of a FB page.
Barbydahizz, I am sure you cherish those every 6 mo visits. How exciting that he had some time with the Seals. Lucky you and him to have never missed a call. That is all our dream! Thanks for the encouragement. Sounds like you may have Hawaii travel on the horizon!
Jeannette... oooo look at all the info your're getting YAY... my son was on hold for A school for about 3 to 4 weeks, 2 months for OPS, then a month while he waited to move across the bay.... well so far we see eachother about every 6 mo, ( we live in KY) until next spring when the JPJ does a hull swap to hawaii.. My son did do some TAD with the seals, LOVED it... LOL no, never missed a phone call i had my phone glued to my face... hahha she'll get to call again.. don[t worry hugs..
Thank you both for explaining TAD and sharing experiences. Jillymom, I'm sorry you and your Sailor experienced the phone issues too and are past that. We will get past it too! Good evening to all...
Jeanette- TAD is temporary assigned duty. My Sailor has spent his time painting, watches, working out at Coronado (that was cool) and whatever else. He is waiting for ops school. We are thrilled to have him home. He was in boot in the dead of winter; on his PIR day, we survived zero temps. There is lots withing walking distance of base. In addition, active duty military get in free to the zoo, museums, many other attractions, and once a year free to Seaworld. I think this is good for up to 4 guests if they register on a particular website. When I visited, we went aboard the Midway and had a great lunch beside the bay. We also had phone issues when he was in boot; we missed a call and his card ran out of minutes. That was a heartbreaking time. Best wishes!
Wow interesting to read about the holds. What is TAD, navymommo? How often do you get to communicate with them once they are in school, Moms?
