Hello Everyone, I'm new to this group and wanted to introduce myself. I have 2 sons in the Navy right now. They went in together and both went to school for IT. I think it surprised both of them how difficult IT school is. The younger one is more of a math whiz and he is working hard and still in school. The older one didn't do as well and admits that it wasn't his cup of tea!! He changed rates recently to STG which led me to you!! I think this will be a better fit for him and we're excited because we live in central California and will be able to drive down to visit him while he's in school. He is interested in working on subs, does anyone know if STG's work on subs also? What would your sailors advice be to succeed in A school? Thanks in advance....Cheryl

It's about 3 hrs from Mayport. They are about to open a LegoLand here in the old Cypress Gardens.

A trip to SD sounds wonderful.  Are you going to stay at the Navy Lodge?

Just spoke with my daughter who is on hold after A-School until she starts OPS in September. I asked her if she was sweeping the floor and she said no I'm painting!  Wish I could've initiated my own "on-hold" work assignments when they were growing up! LOL  My husband and I are looking forward to a visit with her in October.

do2... where is Winter Haven?

Proud Navy mom...you have bragging rights. I did when SF graduated #2 with a 98.9 average.# 1 had a 99.2 average. Smart young pole.

ProudNavyMom  your name fits the occasion!  May that be her pattern her whole career!

txsailor, thanks for sharing. That was well said.  Keep your chin up w/ the other, it will turn around.  Maybe we can meet for a milkshake when you come to Fl.  I'm not sure how I ever get to Hawaii either, but it always seems to work out.

I have a shameless brag.   My daughter's C School graduation was yesterday.  She was officially #1 in the class.  She worked very hard for this honor and we, of course, are so proud of her.    She hopes to be able to take some leave in September and come home for a visit.  We haven't seen her since Christmas.

I have both a  pride in my son and an ache in my heart. The ache is quite selfish... i miss having him around. All that is diminished when I get fb messages and ship to shore calls hearing him doing so well. He has a focus, determination and joy I've not heard in my son until this deployment. I hope all that stays with him through out this deployment. I have so much other painful stuff going on at home with one of my other children that it makes missing SF greater but would have him at no other place right now because he seems so happy. Coping... I am doing ok. I just hang on and wait for the next call or fb message. I am not sure I could have sent him off in Mayport but I sure will do all in my power to be there when he returns.

Just read everyones post.  I've been off line since my last computer died from a lightening strike.  We thought our sailor would be in school through next Sept., but he says he has orders now to Hawaii in the fall. txsailorsam-Donna, what's it like sending them on that 1st deployment?  How are you coping?
Comment by txsailorsam-Donna on August 6, 2011 at 9:10am

My son left SD just recently and is now deployed for the first time. He was no. 2 also in a-school and ops. Ops he was .02 pts behind no.1. Strange thing he was no. 2 out of all the bc kids, too again by .o2 pts. weird. He had boils the whole time in bc and wouldn't tell anyone because he didn't want to be set back.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Heard from SF... He is really enjoying deployment. He is almost finished with his sonar quails. I love hearing from him.
