Yes I am very very proud of him. We surprised him in GL at PIR because he didn't know that more then 4 could possibly get in to see him walk, so he was very happy. I and my husband along with our 4 kids (who think of him more as a big brother than anything else) and great grandma drove from Wichita up to Great Lakes. Even his father didn't know that it was a possibility when I told him. Apparently I read more on the bootcamp site than he did :)  Phone calls have been very few but he's loving San Diego. I saw him on facebook today and asked about class but he says it hasn't started yet. He's been there since the 16th! He did ask for cookies, so since I work at the Post office, I will see how soon we could get that request filled. I've stopped picking on him for not emailing back while he's on facebook. So hard to remember they are not kids anymore and we are not the center of their lives (at the moment anyways.) I just hope that he gets all that he can out of this opportunity.

Will the insurance help at all with the stolen car?  Didn't they used to hang horse thieves?  How is a car different?!  You have my sympathy. What a rotten thing to happen.

Josh's aunt, you have a lot to be proud of, it's wonderful that he is getting on with his life.

My daughter has twice had her car broken into.  The first time, there was stuff visible, such as her GPS,  but the second time, there was nothing of value visible so maybe it was just vandalism.  However, no other cars in the neighborhood were damaged.   It just infuriates me....she's got enough on her mind without hooligans causing such damage.   Makes you feel very violated.

Abuon... my daughter was at Great Lakes for ATT.  She initially was sent to Goose Creek for NUKE but returned to GL for her ATT for sonar.   She was there a couple of months, I think, then went to SD for A & C....in C school now.   At GL, she was in the night school so she had very little liberty...no time for it I guess.  But she told me they all get Phase 1 until they earn phase 2.  How long that takes depends on how badly they want it and work for it.

Hi everyone,

My fiance is in boot camp right now. Then he was told he would stay in GL for ATT (did any of your Sailors do this?) Then go to San Diego for A & C school. I am pretty sure this will not change, although can never be 100% until he gets his written orders in a couple of weeks. My question is about ATT. Since it's not A school, what kind of liberty will he get? Will he get phase 1? Or even phase 2? I am trying to figure out some things and this information would be really helpful!

Thanks :)

Josh's Aunt.... you can send him anything you want now that he's out of bootcamp.  I'm not sure what they are allowed to display in their rooms though...I can't imagine they can't display a few pictures.  The mail delivery is sometimes slow so I wouldn't send anything perishable.   My daughter loves getting gift cards for the restaurants...most national chains are nearby.

Okay, new to the group, and whole Navy thing too. This is my nephew, Josh. He became like my son after his mother died 8yrs ago. His uncle and I are so proud. He did really great with phone calls when he first left bootcamp and went to San Diego, but not so much now. He has called to request cookies though, LOL. I would like to send him some family pics but maybe in a small collage frame. Anyone know if this is allowed or have any ideas for a care package?

It is my understanding that she can cross rate. It is encouraged. She needs to talk to a career counselor. There should be one connected to her ship.

I'm beginning to despair that my daughter will ever deploy  She was delayed upon leaving the NUKE program...cost her several months delay changing to sonar.  Now, she's expecting!!  I'm delighted, it's my first grandchild, but female sailors get 12 mo. shore duty after the baby is born.   So she'll be in almost 3 years before she ever sets sail!   She jokes that the fleet is a myth.  aha
