abuon -- When my son first arrived after boot camp he had to stay in uniform and couldn't leave much.  After a few weeks, I think, he could start leaving base.  He was on holds for about four weeks.  When he classed up "A" school he was given more passes.  He is now in ops training, ( "C" school is done ). He had only five days before his next class started and it will run right into the following class.  So he has had no real "vacation" sense starting boot camp. We are hopeful he'll be able to come home in December for a few weeks.  We have been to SD twice to see him.  What a wonderful place to be stationed.

My son is only in San Diego a few more weeks. He has enjoyed it... lots to do... loves the beaches. He will finish ops soon, come home for 9 days then deploy from Mayport, Florida. I am both excited for him and anxious about the deployment because of where he probably will be. I will definitely be in Florida when he returns.

Thank you Phoebe! Is that information for A school or C school?

abuon:  It's mostly like a regular 40 hour work week.  He will have some weekend duties.  My son just started a new class and it is afternoon not morning.  Your sailor will be spending a lot of time at the beach.  You should try to find an apartment near the base.  One wife lives 15 miles away...really hard on hubby.  The other lives walking distance.  Much better.

Thanks proudnavymom! Do you happen to know of he is allowed to live off base in C school if he is married? We are getting married before he starts C school. Also, do you know what kind of liberty he has while in A school?

abuon.... my daughter is in C school there now and loves it.  She has pretty much freedom to come and go.  She gets to the beach fairly often.   I don't know all the specifics but she seems to have a fair amount of free time and of course she's "off" on weekends except when she has duty/watch.

Hey everyone,

My boyfriend will be STG-AEF, and he has told me that when he finishes ATT in GL he'll have both his A school and C school in San Diego... can anyone tell me what I can expect while he's there? I am moving there with him (not "with him" since we're not married...but I'm moving ther because of him), and I was wondering what his liberty phases will be, when the best time for me to move there would be, what it will be like for him while he's in school there (I know as an STG all the instruction is classified) and really anything else.

Thank you!

We have a MWR at the NEX and they are a great place to get military discounts for some of the local places.. zoo, safari park, legoland, seaworld... etc. If you buy tickets through them before heading out to the places.. its a noticable difference cheaper. Some places around let the military in for free. I know the San Diego Zoo allows my husband in free with his active duty card.

I think I'm MWR's newest fan!  How could I get involved in that here at home?

Mary...Nice to know your door is open to the younger sailors.  Emily has told me she has a mentor there...didn't realize the navy did that for them.  She goes to him if she has any problems (like when her pay got all messed up somehow) and he and his family have invited her home for special occasions, such as Thanksgiving, when she can't get home.  It's nice to know she has a more experienced advocate to help her.
