Hello All,

My first posting...bare with me.  My son is currently in A school.  I asked him what will he need when he gets his first assignment.  He said tools are strongly suggested...as with any trade.  Of course there is no list.  Does anyone have a list of some suggestions for Mechanics?

Thanks,

Nicole

My son is still in A school at Groton.

My son is just finishing all his school at Groton, and hasn't said a WORD about needing tools???

My son is a MM3- if that makes any sense.  He's in the engine room.  Just trying to confirm...my son always "needs something"  What others hear as suggestions, he takes it as "he has to have it, it's required"

A good "leatherman" tool is highly recommended as well as a small flashlight. (Some of the leathermen come with one and there is a pouch on the case for the flashlight. As part of Molly's Adopt a sailor, I helped purchase these for a sub adoption one month. I know they were really appreciated.

I'll be sure to look that up!  Thanks!

They'll have access to all the tools they need on the boat, Nicole.  He might find a multi-purpose tool like a Leatherman, or Gerber useful at times, but only for incidental use - it won't be suited for most of the work they'll be doing.  The Navy is kinda particular about making sure they have the tools they need, maybe cuz the boats like, go underwater and stuff ;).  Welcome!

Thanks for the Welcome!  Definately agree, they should have everything they need on board.  Since this is my only son in military, I have no idea what to expect.  Plus my son has always been the "I have to have VS he really only wants".  So confirming what he really needs, since I can't speak to any of his supervisors directly.  Thanks so much!

Ah...that's funny :) - really glad I was able to help...and happy that it came across in the right spirit!
