Welcome Suzanne! Sub duty is hard for everyone.

Our sailor son just finished his four years on the Penn - also out of Bangor. There is a group here for Wa/Or and Bangor. They are great - just like this group. If you are planning a visit there are a lot of 'locals' on that site and they will help you tons. You will learn a lot here - and please feel free to ask. While, I'm not currently a 'sub mom' I will be again when this assignment is completed. I was told that once a sub mom - always a sub mom.

For those of you who have been holding us in your prayers - thank you. Here is the latest:
My unemployment has been delayed again. The next phone interview will be on 9-22. The HR director stated that I voluntariarly left - retired. Well, that was after I got the "Notice of Termination". I only retired because of that and to retain my medical benefits. So, I'm thinking that other than the financial squeeze after the first week of October all should be fine. I'll get a copy of the letter to them as soon as I can, and we should be okay. No jobs here yet. Over 100 for any clerical position - and there have only been six in the paper in the last month. The Union is in 'binding arbritation' with the Courts. I don't know when the next meeting will be or anything. However, there are roomers that the next round of lay off's are coming soon. Please keep the prayers coming. These are indeed hard times for many of us.
Our visit with Adam and his family was wonderful. Full of a lot 'family bonding' meals, dishes and laundry. A great blessing in my unemployment was to be home full time with them during the visit. Wow, kids these days - do they ever plan ahead - yes, but they don't let us 'retired folk' know which end is up - like planning for dinner, etc. My angel blessings to each of you ~S

Hi Gaileann: There is a Bangor group, Wa/Or group also. They are great groups. If you have questions about the area, places to stay, etc. they are a ton of help. Our sailor is there too. Has been for five years now. It is beautiful. Please feel free to ask if you have questions. ~s

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm more of a gin and club person. Also chocolates also. Just wanted to tell all of you my son made it safely to Hawaii. Happy to get that call. I know he will be fine he has friends out there already. Just have to get used to the time difference. Thanks again.:)

Delete Comment I enjoy my gin and tonic right after they leave with a quiet spot thanking God that he is safe and to keep him in His care. Mark, I'll give yours a try. This last time was very hard for me - when they were all at the door, I had to leave the room because the tears just started and wouldn't stop. I don't know any who this is 'easier' for. All the parent's that I know of say it is hard-while I try, I know that it is harder to try to stop when the first tear falls. Dan has it much easier than I do at least with the tears - but he says that he did this and understands. However, for the Macho part - I noticed this time that he was quiter than usual and had to go find a project in his 'shed' to work on.
My mother in-law had all three of her sons serve as well as her husband. She said that during WWII there was a community and you could help and support eachother because they were living together and through it. That is also why Blue Star Mom's started (January22, 1942). N4M gives us that. I am so glad because the first five and a half years were harder than anything I have every gone through before. I am so very greatful for all of you. It helps, reading, supportin gand sharring. Hang in there Gloria and when you find your cure (my friend takes a bubble bath and has champagne to celebrate their visit) share it with us. ~s

Gloria, go eat some chocolate; it has an amazing effect on tears! The tears keep falling, but it gives your tongue something tastier than salt water to lick off your lips!

Whether they're across the country or across an ocean, they're just not close enough are they? Smile thinking of him watching those girls on the beach and keep your mommy chin up. Hugs! k.

My son is now on his way to Hawaii. Saying goodbye at the airport was hard to do. Is dad held up better then I did. Just couldn't stop crying. We miss him already. Can't wait to get that call that he arrived safely.

Our Nuke is now at Bremerton, and very happy. They all made it home safe and sound.
Things are quiting down here, especially since they left and school started. I'm still reorganizing the house and deep cleaning. Will be glad when I have it the way that I want it.
No job interviews yet - the Union is in Binding Arbritration with the Court. I'm not sure what that all means or will entail - but hopefully full reinstatement or a settlement. Thank you for all of your prayers~s
