Hey, Mom Stew... tell your son that if he doesn't give you a "sign of life," you'll send one of his "bearskin" baby pictures to the COB's wife. I bet you hear from him within 24 hours! ;-) Hugs! k.

Hi Patricia R. -- First contrats to your son for getting thru Power School. That is a lot a pressure on our young sailors. As for Proto School in Balston Spa...love that area. My son also went to school there..then out to sea...then when time for land duty he picked teaching at Balston Spa. When he was going to school there he said someday he would live there. Well, I believe he will. He is marrying this November to a nice young lady who he met in Saratoga Springs and is from that area. So I do believe when he retires from the Navy they will end up there. Again, congrats to your son.

Thanks for the 'congrats!' Drew is great... had him for two weeks' leave. He brought me four coveralls and a utility shirt that needed those pretty silver fish sewed on! He's training now (as is Nick, I'm sure). Due to some clerical goofs, this is the FOURTH time he's had torpedo handling class... he says, "I can probably TEACH one of the d#$% things!" lol! Hugs, k.

Yvonne, the ship that was attacked by pirates was the ALABAMA owned by the Mersk Shipping Line (not our beloved submarine), so they refer to it as the "Mersk Alabama." It was the ship from which Captain Phillips was kidnapped. After the pirates took the Captain in exchange for letting his crew go, the US Navy put personnel aboard to help the crew take it safely into port.

The USS BAINBRIDGE is the US Navy ship which was sent as rescue and has been keeping an eye on things all this time. One of the pirates (a 16-yr-old, for heaven's sake!) was stabbed during the original attack, and was taken aboard the Bainbridge for medical care. Snipers (SEALS) on board the Bainbridge waited until the three remaining pirates exposed themselves, and then "took them out." 3 dead pirates + 1 captured pirate + 1 safe captain = GOOD GUYS WIN! Hugs, k.

Hoo-ah! Let's hear it for the US Navy - freeing Capt. Richard Phillips and killing three of the pirates holding him hostage. Details are still coming, but you can be pretty sure it was a SEAL team operation, quite possibly operating from a US submarine.
