Lyn I think you are right I hope they do a lot of kidding underway....Kel never says anything much either, he thinks they all got a job to do...now if you want to talk surface......................................lol

Well said Lyn - I really can't say what coners say about the nucs either, maybe a coner mom can enlighten us. I think they mostly feel a little sorry for them, though. In a year or so, I may be able to pry an answer out of my son.

Alex gets along well with both Nukes and Coners. But, life on board during a deployment would be dull without a little kidding along the way. I've no idea what the Coners say about the Nukes. Alex doesn't share those remarks??

I guess really with out each and everyone of them. the job would not get done.....so the importance level is about equal, and so sad for any that feel different.

Lyn, I love that about "cooks and Nukes!" I must remember to tell Son.

I don't understand why guys won't learn how to dance and cook, when women LOVE guys who can dance and guys who can cook. Nancy, your kid is going to get snatched up by some smart girl really fast! (Does he know how to dance? If so, I'll marry him myself.)

Mark, Son would tell you that it may have been SAFE for that guy in the kitchen doing the night baking, but it was still a TRAGEDY if he ruined the blueberry muffins! Ha! k.

Alex has often said that the cooks and Nukes are the truly important guys on a sub. With out the cooks, the Nukes starve. Without the Nukes, the sub goes nowhere and the coners get permanent shore duty. LOL Alex gets out of the Navy in 2012 and already has a job offer waiting for him. Companies are actively recruiting Nukes. His brother just gives him a dirty look, when they get together. Chris is a lifer so its all in good fun. Not that a CTN couldn't get a civilian job if he wanted one. lol BTW, Alex's best friend is an MM.

In fact Kaye, while we're talking about cooks - the Hartford was very lucky with the timing for it's collision. The galley is one of the places where it could have been really bad. Fortunately, it happened at 1 AM, when the only cook working would have been the guy doing the night baking, and everyone not on watch was in their racks, one of the safest places to be if your going to take an 85 degree roll.

Cooks are very important on a sub! It may be something the rest of the guys appreciate more in hindsight, but the guys in the galley on subs mostly do great jobs, work very hard, and have a lot to do with making underway time a lot more tolerable. For the most part, they care deeply about what they do, and the crew (I hope they still do) let them know when they do an especially good job - and the cooks love hearing it.

That is what I told my son .but he thought I was crazy (of course) and said he'll stick with ET
