oh... yes Lyn - all boomers are SSBNs, but the first four Trident (actually Ohio) class boats have recently been converted to SSGNs (consequently, no longer boomers), carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles and SEAL teams...I don't know if there's a snappy name that's caught on yet for those, I'll have to ask around...

You stumped me on the translations, Kaye - unless "TMA" means "Target Motion Analysis", I suspect that it's a bit funnier than that though. The other ones - I haven't a clue. You were definitely bum-doped on the boomer thing though - c'mon, it's only two syllables - what else would you call 'em? :) 41 for freedom refers to the predecessor class (41 of 'em - duh) to the Trident boats, that carried the Poseidon missile. All of them are gone now, except for the two that were converted to moored training ships for the Charleston prototypes - I helped remove the reactor fuel on probably thirty of them...hugs (of course)

My sons best friend is on a boomer and both he and my son call it a boomer. He's a nuke (MM). I guess you could call it a SSBN but I don't think all boomers are SSBNs. Mark...Help.

OK, Mark, translate:
- "Q tank" / "Flood Q"
- "TMA"
- "RoRo"

Also, a posted comment on another site said, "...it's socially inappropriate to say 'Boomer' to a Trident sailor. That was the name of the 41-for-freedom boats." (1) Is his comment true? If so, what the heck do we call them? (2) What are the "41" boats?

"Help me, Obi Wan... you're our only hope." Hugs! k.

Hey, did you see Trace last night - what an awesome tribute to all of our soldiers - I even stayed up late just to see it.

LOL! I sure hope your hubby knows what a treasure he has, if he's gotten away with that one! Time to pack my sun-burnt self off to bed now - g'night...

Hey, Mark! And in response to your "no email 'cuz I'm golfing" comment: I've been used to being second on the priority list when the weather's fine for a long time now (26 years' worth!)

I gave Son your email address, and he fully intends to take you up on the golfing offer... remind him he's supposed to send his momma pictures of his friends and the base (it's a year now, and I've had nothing!) k.
