Lyn,
What candy your son doesn't want to eat can be employed to other usefuly purposes. For my son's 21st birthday, I had 7 pounds of Sour Patch Kids (his favorite) delivered to the ship's office just before a deployment. He got a few quals signed off by "spreading the love!"

The postmaster in our town is Navy retired. I asked him about sending the passport priority mail and/or confirmation of delivery. He told me that the only confirmation I would get was that the package was delivered to the FPO, the Navy that is. After it gets into the hands of the Navy there is no way to track a package or a letter for that matter. I just hope that the passport gets to him before they deploy to where ever they are going. My son says he kind of wishes that the candy had gone to some one who would have eaten it. Now it is taking up half his bunk. He is exagerating of course the box wasn't that big. LOL Thanks for the suggestion about the priority mail flat rate boxes. I will definitely use those.

Hi Ordy,
Yes I was a nuc MM-ELT on fast attack subs in the mid-80s in San Diego, and have been working with the nuc program as a civilian for twenty years. My son is currently in BESS, and will be a sonar tech.

I just got an e-mail from my son. He wrote to let me know that he got the box of chocolates I sent him, after they got underway. The thing is, I sent that box on November 10th,2008. Not sure where its been all this time, but he's now sleeping with a box of chocolates. I sent his passport to him at the same address. That was 3 weeks ago, so far no passport. So I guess the lesson is,don't send anything that is likely to go bad or is needed in a timely manor. Got to love the Navy.

No problem, Tina. I'm starting to get that, and it makes a lot of sense. I finally got a return call from my son at sub school yesterday after two weeks, myself. I was at least as bad as a young sailor, though I suppose I can claim the excuse of not being tethered to a cell phone or having e-mail 25 years ago. I suppose when you get down to it, one thing many youngsters in the military have in common is a desire to establish a life all their own, and cutting the apron strings is part of it, as painful as this can be for us parents, especially the moms. So, I'm understanding there's a need, and I'm happy to help.

Well, the ALABAMA is back in her berth again... I don't know for how long, but I'll take it. This is as fun as playing "Button, Button, Who's got the Button!"

The seller is Crafty Cupboard (click on name). Or just search ebay on "submarine punch."
