Susan, are you a member of WASHINGTON & OREGON moms? (click on the name)

They welcome any moms with Sailors in Washington and are a great source of information and support (that's where I got my son adopted for Xmas). Put your post there too. I know you'll find some "phone moms," plus some wise, experienced people nearby if your DIL needs them. k.

Hi Everybody: The surgery for Brianna's pallet will be next Tuesday (13). They may also put tubes in her ears. All looks great. She will be in arm restraints and a lot of pain for the first two weeks. We had hoped that Adam would be there the day of - and a little after. Here is our dil's comment's about his availability. "We found out from Adam's work that they have decided to do the calibrations next week. Which could mean we will not see him for the next ten days or so. ..", So, I am asking for prayers for their family. If you are a Washington Mom and in Seattle - maybe you would be willing to do a "Mom check" via phone for me? I prayed about asking, and if you don't ask you won't know! Bri just turned one. They live on the base (Bangor). Thank you, my angel blessings, Susan

Speaking of siblings... photo time!
Comment by John and Yvonne on January 6, 2009 at 1:31pm
I read the comments about the siblings...I made the horrible mistake of pretty much cutting my ties with my siblings when I joined the Navy. My brother was only 10. Because I didn't call much or write much, my brother feels today like he never had a brother and doesn't want one now (I'm 57 and he's 49). The attempts I make now never seem to work.

Sure wish there had been cell phones and email back then.

I watcdh the different sailors and soldiers and even marines who come through the house hang on their cell phones when they're here talking to parents and siblings allthe time. What a difference! Thank God!

All kidding aside I do know that it is hard for sister's when their brothers go away. While Adam has been in the Navy six years, Katie has said to me at times (like when decorating or un-decorating the tree) that she misses him. Now that he is married it is a bit different because she knows what that commitment is like. But the sibling part is still very hard. I remember telling then that people will come and go into their lives - but their sibling will be with them for the whole deal.

I"m a mom that took the door off and when I put it back on, I took the door knob off. I thought this would be a big deal and make a point, but my youngest just turned 18 and he still hasn't asked for it back. Now as a girl I would have pleaded (though tears) to have it back .......

Kathy, I don't think it's PMS because it would be cyclical... this seems to be a constant phenomena.

Karysa, while your statement is almost universally true, some of us were forced to perform variations on the theme (like kicking shoes onto the back wall of the closet instead) due to Father threatening, not idly mind, that the door would come off the hinges if slammed in that low 'Dirty Harry' voice>>. EEK!

Mine did it too! It is funny now when her son starts to do it to her.
