Hi Wendy:
Do you have any idea about how Cameron is doing? I had a disfunctional family - it breaks my heart. One of the blessings I feel with the Navy is that if there is family trouble - they will be ther to help. I've been praying for Cameron.I have concern's for my son with his wife - and pray that there is more family support in the Navy. Please let me know if he would like an e-mail/snail mail 'mom'. I like Lyn's idea - I'm here to help in any way that I can - - please let me know. Our sailor worked Christmas day (he is doing the 12-14 hr days - it is his turn). Susan

Delete Comment My Family has been Navy for generations, so you will rarely ever hear me criticize the service. But this is one thing I wish the Navy would stop. This business of telling recruits they "might" not graduate on time. I hear it over and over again and I know that they do it to motivate the sailors. It is rarely, if ever true, and succeeds in only upsetting families back home. Even those who are not dysfunctional are upset by this news. I firmly believe that it also harms the support the Navy needs from families. There needs to be a better way to motivate their recruits. Delaying their PIR dates usually happens for medical reasons or in the case of rare and serious infractions.
I also wish that the Navy would find a way to pair sailors with those Navy families that would be willing to support them in their choice of career. Kind of like a foster family system. The Navy knows who they are and it wouldn't be hard to find Navy Moms to write to them and support them emotionally.

To each of you Merry Chirstmas. I wish I had found this six years ago it would have made my holidays much easier. We did find out that Adam applied for an E-6 shore duty job in Japan at the encouragement of his commander. However, he is an E-5 - - so after this next depoloyment he will be at Bremerton. He has also been on sub duty for four years. I sure hope I am getting this right. Thank you all so much this site has helped me to understand things much more clearly. It is hard when they are married and you have even less time to visit with them. However, everybody here is right - enjoy the time you have with them on the phone and praise their wonderful service for our country. We are in good hands. Merry Christmas, Susan

Welcome Mary and Sue, This is a great site my son has been on a sub 4years.....and let me tell you I have stopped asking questions since the second week.......and al the pain we have from not hearing from our sailors will be wiped away when you get the phone call and pictures from their first port and they are filled with excitment at what they are living.....then our saddness becomes joy for them

Hi Mary May - and welcome. I'm new to this site as well. What a blessing. Our sailor has been in six years and I just found this. From the little that I've learned this is a great place for you to be. Our son has only had two holiday's at home that I know of. He is in Bangor on the USS Penn. Before I found this site, I kept a journal and did a lot of writing with my questions - and praying. It does hlep to type a letter with all the family news - and when you can send the e-mail you have it there. Kind of like a journal. I found that sometimes when I edit it is eas to look back and see the humor to inject which makes being away easier. We are all here. Adam was only home for one 'Chrismas' - we did it in January when he could get home. It is not easy - but we have a community to support and help eachother. Merry Christmas - and welcome, Susan

Hi all, My son Alex is a reactor operator on the USS Miami. He won't make it home for Christmas but we have great hopes that he will be home sometime next week. I love him dearly, but he is not all that good at keeping in touch. Good luck to all those who are hoping to get there sailors home for Christmas

Hi!

I just wanted to wish all of you moms with sailors in school in Virginia a very Merry Christmas. Being on NavyforMoms had been a learning experience for me. In all of my years associated with the Navy, I've never known, let alone appreciated how you all feel when your sons or daughters join the service. Reading the comments many of the moms have made on here I have a whole new understanding of your feelings, sometimes painful ones, especially during this time of year. This has been really enlightening for me. It's added a whole new dimension to my prayers life. Believe me when I say I will be praying for you all with much deeper understanding!

Unfortunately, probably not Chrissy. I was on subs, and I suspect there would be issues with fire/electrical safety. All personal plug-in electrical items are required to be checked out and tagged as good-to-go by the electricians on board; however an item like that, that is both a heat source and has the potential to develop an electrical short-circuit would be an issue, I think. Fire and electrical safety is a very big concern on ships and submarines, as you might imagine, and perhaps even more so in berthing areas.
