Rtw1 welcome to the Navy world! After BC he will head to Groton for BESS training. Depending on his rate he could be there a few months to a year. If he is assigned to a fast attack they can go outfor7-9 months. Boomers are usually 3 months. Hope that helps.

On the upper right side of the home page are lots of "pages" to read. Lots of answers for you

Kinda the short of it: Great Lakes first then usually Groton CT, about a year after he is in he he will be assigned a sub. BUT, some of this depends on his rate(job), if he is a Nuke it is different.

My son has been on the same boat for 4 years. After this deployment he will have shore duty

Navy life is a journey, hang on to your hat, there are many ups and downs! We are all here for you!!!

Sniffle morning; son sneakily arranged back in the fall before deployment for girlfriend to mail us gifts for Christmas. Lovely surprise. What got hubby and I really choked up was the card he sent. Just seeing his handwriting.... and wonderful girlfriend sent us a US Navy throw embroidered with his name. In a  few months the boat will be home and there  will be a whole lotta Christmas being celebrated again!

He msg me, saying he would like to be at our partY tonight but he is working... It was Christmas there at 10am my time, hard to get my brain around that!!!

Tysmom, I saw a photo of both subs side by side, our boys are bunk mates, so to speak!!!

I have tried to get through that poem but can't seem to make it, just thinking about makes me cry.  It is beautiful though!
