Oceanslayer my son graduates that day as well. Like navymom9828 mine is a different rate so I can't help you regarding classes. As for diving he can work on his certification at Groton or his next location. My sailor wants to do it at Groton where there isn't a lot of competition
My son is graduating BESS on 12/10/15. Anyone have any ideas on how his classes will work after. He was in the nuke pipeline and is rated an MM. On the sub he will be an MM AUX . I know he was already assigned a his sub a fast attack in VA even before he went to BESS.
Also wondering when they can volunteer to be a diver. He has been certified as recreational diver since he was 10.
Thanks for any advice and Happy Thanksgiving to all and a special blessing to all those serving in the military.
thank you everyone for advice, how do I get in touch with the ombudsman? Who is that?
kirty89, my son will be out for the holidays and into next year. We could pack a box for half way night to be stored on the sub until half way through the deployment. When he has gone underway for a couple of weeks we could not pack a box or anything and they did not get mail. Send lots of emails. We have been told they may get some mail while deployed but can not count on it and it maybe a last minute notification. I have bought Christmas cards, birthday cards and had a couple of pictures printed for him to take on boat with him to open Christmas morning. His girl friend gave me a couple of little things for him to stick in his bag to open on Christmas and his birthday. He is on a fast attack and will be gone 6 months and maybe more. Like others advised get in touch with ombudsman and she has more info on what his COB allows.
Kirty89, Is your sailor on a boomer or fast attack? Mine is on a boomer and they do not get any mail while out. I've been told that you can mail to the fast attacks and maybe the package will catch up with the sub when it get into a port but you need to contact the ombudsman for your sub about the process, sizes, etc.
A Navy Mom, my son seems to like Bangor. He went camping with a couple of sub-mates already and always seems busy when we talk. I don't know if he's had much down time yet. I hope to go visit him when he's back on-shore.
Hello Sub Moms, I have a question I hope one of you can answer! My Sailor is on his first cruise and will be out there through the holidays, is there anyway to get a package to him for Christmas? And if there is, is there a size limit? I have been asking other moms but no one seems to know the answer. :(
fayegirl4*, when my son was in Groton for BESS, BMS and then A school and C school he was knocked back down white card a couple of times. If the whole class was not performing as they should everyone paid the price. No matter how good my son's grades were. Also he had a slob for a roommate the first few weeks and during inspection he and his roommate were knocked back to white for a week due to the roommate was playing video games when they came to inspect the room. My son was on duty and not in the room. No matter both went to white for a week. Lots of one word answers for all us moms. You will learn though it is so much they can not tell us that they just get in the habit of not telling anything. Not that my son said a lot before he joined the Navy. It has been a year and a half for me and I still do not understand most of the language he uses. I often ask what does that mean or stand for. LOL
Navymom9828- our son just graduated BESS on 11/13 and is in week 2 of BMS then Im not sure what his next class/school will be. I do know that he will be in Groton until at least March when he should finish A school. His rate is MM- but he said he is also known as an A Ganger? Im trying so hard to understand the terminology.... :P Just trying to get out info about his roommate and if he's made friends is next to impossible. I suppose that's a good thing-- he says he is studying and doesn't want to goof off and get his blue card liberty taken away. I just pray everyday that he has good days and on the bad days he has the wisdom to get through them.
