No one had heard from my sailor in over a month -  got an email today - he had been getting our emails, but was not able to send any out.

It is important to keep emailing, even if you do not get any in return! He said it helped him as he was working on his quals.

Don't know when he is returning - but he earned his dolphins!

Hello everyone,  My son just got his orders for the USS New Mexico in Groton, CT.  He has about 2 weeks of Prototype to finish up before he goes.

Anyone have a Sailor on this boat?  And is there a Facebrook group for it?

Thanks for your help!

Yippee, I got my first email from my son last night!! I was FB messaging with his twin, who is on deployment, at the same time it came in, Double yippee.

CO-TwinSalorsMom, when my son first reported to his boat it was underway and he had to wait until it returned from sea.  Then about a month later it went into the shipyard for more than a year.  In his case the boat was still based at Groton at that time and the shipyard was only 10 minutes away.  Then the boat permanently relocated to Hawaii about six months ago.

So if it were the case your son's boat goes into the shipyard that would mean they relocated to the shipyard wherever that might be,  and everyone in the enlisted crew works in the shipyard for the duration of the repairs.

The good news is there is a lot of stuff they can fix right at Pearl Harbor so hoping to send some good luck your way Lol.

I sort of redid my son's rooms, sold the house. LOL I now have a guest room and have some of the things there. Pictures they drew or painted, their bathrobes in the closet and their favorite blankets in the closet goes on the bed depending on who is visiting.

Comment by LoriM (div 337--Kevin's submom) on June 8, 2015 at 7:39am

cybergrouch, I still haven't redone my son's room. It will be 3 years in for him come Aug. He will have 2 more years on his contract and then 3 for the reserves. He said he will probably re-enlist. But, until then I have kept all of his things. Of course, all of his clothes in his closet are now in a portable closet in the basement so his sister can use his closet and she uses his desk in his room. His bed is used to put shopping bags and figure out outfits to wear. Not sure what she would do if he was still here.
