hello all!
I want to wish everyone and their families a very merry Christmas and a safe and blessed new year!!
Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Hi Nuke ELT Mom-- we are new to the SSN lifestyle (my husband only did the last 2 weeks of his SSN boats deployment before they pulled back in) I can assure you that even in the little bit of time he was with that boat out at sea, once they got his email set up (it took abt 3 days maybe) I was able to get an email from him EVERY DAY!!! I couldn't believe it and was honestly AMAZED!!! Because coming from a BN to an SSN, we didn't know what to expect. Our first patrol together on the BN I got 6 emails on a 91 day period and with the SSN I got like 7 emails in abt 6 days!!! To say I'm was excited abt the amount of communication is an understatement. So yes you will hear from them!!! I hear that SSN's have the best communication of all the subs. While I personally kinda dread having to get into the SSN lifestyle, it seems to put my heart at ease knowing that communication is worlds better than a BN (where he seemed to always be 1 or 2 weeks behind getting my emails and responding) just keep in mind to NEVER stop sending them :) per my husbands words to me when we were first getting started
Hi Nuke ELT
My son has also been in for 5 years. He has been on a fast attack, USS Virginia for 3 of those years, with a number of deployments. Some were short some longer. They have had 2 or 3 of them they did surface at a port and stay there a few days with some sailors (mine did) allowed to have liberty and run free on land there. For a regular deployment they can get email daily and email you back
proudmamaoftwo, please check this out & see if it can help you with your plans: Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS) has high quality rooms at affordable rates, rooms start at $45. For reservations call 1-877-NAVY-BED (1-877-628-9233) or www.dodlodging.net. A friend used this for the SF Bay area and said it was beautiful but the sailor has to book it for you.
Sub moms,
If your sons on the subs aren't going home for Christmas day, we would love to invite them to join us for Christmas dinner at our home! The more the merrier!
