Oh my, what a wonderful experience - thank you scubagirl for sharing!  It's my sons first deployment this week and I am already crying.  We spent a little time with him last week (only a few hours in the eve - he couldn't get the time off).  He has had several underways and glad that he got that time to acclimate, even though I missed hearing from him terribly.  But knowing it will be months before I hear from him, it has been hard preparing myself.

Scrub girl that is so awesome your son was in the video! I'm super happy for you.

Scubagirl, how great for you to be able to see your son on that video. I know if it were me, I'd be playing that video over & over again, as I'm sure you did! Great Share!

YEAH!!!Scubagirl how exciting to see your son like that. It had to be the best surprise ever. I remember when my son got back to his home port the first time and called home. No one was here but me. My husband was at bowling and I couldn't wait so I drove up there (something I never do) and as soon as I saw started crying. My husband really thought something bad happened to someone.I told him and then he got teary eyed.

Awwwww!!! Big hugs for you @scubagirl!! He's a handsome guy!

Deployments are tough; I think it's the unknown factor combined with the certainty that there's nothing they can do for you and vice versa! It was really difficult my first time.

I remember Pat L in IL walking me through the first "I hate everyone and everything" email with great advice: it's not personal, but you're the safe one to vent to. They are careful with each other and put team before self all day every day. When they talk to their mom without anyone to hear? They know that it's safe to blow off steam. (I translated it into my own words, but that's the general idea.)

Stay strong Navy Moms!! Know that I've got your back!

very cool video. Thanks for sharing it. My son is also deployed now and it is fun to see a glimpse of the environment.

scubagirl, thanks for posting!  Another teary-eyed mom here!  I actually re-wound it to see your son.  Somehow, they all seem like they're our sons!  I can totally understand your call to your husband.  My son will also leave soon on his first deployment.  Really appreciate hearing others' stories.
