In a heartbeat, Wendy! Air, ground, or rail... whatever! Or I'll ship her to YOUR door; she likes to cook and will need to learn how to cook his favorites, right?

Nancy Fortini... just checked out your photos and WOW! You've got one handsome sailor there!!! I've seen so many handsome and obviously sweet guys in the moms' photos here... I used to be against arranged marriages in principal. But, since joining this site, I'm ready to enter negotiations with some of you for the hand of my 18-yr-old daughter! ;-) ks.

Son says there are about 3 chefs on his boat and when one of the guys is cooking, the sailors try to skip that meal. But, the other two are really good. Our FRG printed a cookbook of our sailors' favorite recipes and I think the chefs are going to make a few of the dishes on this next cruise.

Way to go, Nancy! ...and a shout out to your son - he and guys like him make life on the boats a 100% better. You reminded me of something I forgot to mention, so I'll second you - again, because of the size of the crew, the guys are really good about letting the cooks know when they enjoy a meal. I'm pretty sure they like hearing it about as much as you do - so it helps the cooks do better too.

I have to offer a counter opinion on the food thing. I was on fast attacks for four years in the 80s, and the food was quite decent. The quality of the cooks does matter, but subs tend to get the better cooks, plus since the crew is so small, everyone knows everyone else, and they'd let a lousy cook know about it! The food does tend to be high-fat, it is true - but most meals are decent, and occasionally, they go all out to make one special. Saturday night mid-rats (a midnight meal, meals are every six hours - so oncoming and offgoing watches get to eat) are always awesome too - with fresh pizza made from scratch. A lot of guys will wake up for that one, even if they're not in either the offgoing or oncoming watch. As far as weight gain goes, I would also disagree - I didn't work out, but would invariably lose about twenty pounds over a six month deployment. Most actual people eat a lot less healthy when in port, LOL. No alcohol underway is probably a factor as well.

Me too Debbie, after it is all over Kel tells me where he's "seen" . In the beginning all he ever told me was MOM I can't tell you that so I stopped asking ...They will tell later. I just now ( after all the talk here) emailed him asking him if he is blue or gold....lol.
Also we don't want to get them in trouble for telling us
huggs everyone

Way to go to your son Bobbi............feel the love............as far as not talking about namw , dates,,,etc.... I got tired of always being told momI can't tell you that........so I told my son not to tell me anything the world can't know about, He has been in navy for 5 yrs ...and I just emailed him to see if he is blue or gold.................lol.......I don't know about mail drops, but I do know that one time we were in a hustle to make half way boxes for our sailor, that they gave to then 1/2 way though, and they were ladies shoe box size, so we got to send some goodies.....huggs everyone it gets eaiser........no news is good news
