Thank you J's&S's Mom & William. I was ambivalent until your posts. This is one of the most thought provoking threads I've read. I'm glad I chose not to 'scroll' through it. Now I think you should make a file for this topic and it should be a 'must read' for new members.
J's&S's Mom! Food for thought for sure. Had not even thought about that.
We trust the enlisted female sailors on submarine tenders with the lives of our submariners too, since the tender's job is to repair and provison the subs. No part of their job involves becoming pregnant on the ship during the time that ship is underway though -- yet 27% of them do become pregnant every year, like clockwork. Although the tenders spend most of their time moored in a harbor somewhere, they do go on deployments too. One N4M member about 5 years ago remarked that one tender had left for a 3 month deployment starting with no pregnant crewmembers, and upon landfall 3 month later there were 27 pregnancies that all occurred while on the ship. The sailors came back between 2-3 months pregnant. The task of a submarine tender is to be a floating machine shop, and rendevous at sea with s
27 pregnancies on one ship during 3 months. The account did not mention how many of those pregnancies involved married couples where husband and wife were both assigned to the same ship during the blessed event -- I will go out on a limb and guess that number was zero.
Maybe that has no bearing on Navy plans of putting 20% females on the enlisted crew of a fast attack submarine over the next five years.

We are monitored on this site and I hope our comments are not taken lightly. The Navy needs tor do what is best for all those involved without being concerned about being PC.We are really discussing our nations security here and adding another stress level in my humble opinion is not the best, but who am I to make those decisions.

Does anyone here ever share what the name of the Sub is there Sailor is on? I am asking because I see Groups named after Subs on Here. So I guess so?
There are just so many bathrooms/showers on a submarine. As it is with the boomers that have integrated women, more men must share per shower/bath than shower/bath for the women right now. If 20% of the crew on a boomer were women, yes accommodation could be designed so the number of users/facility is somewhat equal for the men and the women. Our submarine force has been shrinking over the years, reflection of the size of our military force in general.
Logistically on a fast attack it can't be done. Space is at a super premium. We are talking about a piece of machinery that cost over a billion dollars to built. It is designed to operate at maximum efficiency. If the Navy wants women on a fast attack, then make it an all female crew. Otherwise, tear down any barriers whatsoever and have men and women share everything - everyone treated equally, no privacy whatsoever - like in the movie Starship Troopers. Any of you think the Russians, North Koreans or the Chinese are going to give a hoot about integrating women into a fast attack crew? They are probably laughing their heads off, surreptitiously encouraging this because they'll be able to detect a sub by the trail of feminine products expelled (probably my overactive imagination at work). This would be great material for a tragic comedy.
Well said tysmom and CO-twin. There are many places women should be but on a sub is not one of them. My son's opinion as well.
