OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Info on the different rates and their schools?
Hey everyone! My husband just graduated from bootcamp this past weekend (2/11). He is in SECF and headed for Groton for BESS this week. I am not sure when his actual class starts...I plan to ask the next time he calls. (Can't wait to get his cell to him!!) I'm looking for some solid info on what schools he will be attending and how long they are, and how that might impact us as a family. We have a 14 month old little boy who adores his daddy! Hubby really wants to be FT, wouldn't complain about ET, and doesn't want to do STS. Hopefully he will have a shot at what he wants, he's smart, studies hard, and has been very well liked as a section leader by his RDC's.
There was some information on the sheet they gave him at MEPS for each rate, but I'm a little suspicious of the accuracy since it said that BESS was 4 weeks and did not list any of the other "extra" classes I've been seeing little blurbs about.
So, what's the lowdown here? For each of the 3 rates, what are each of the schools/classes they go through and how long are they (not counting hold time)?
Are all schools/classes in Groton or are some of them elsewhere? If so for how long and can you still move to be with your Sailor?
Any good info on "job descriptions" of each rate and what life is like for each one?
I think I had a couple of other questions but they are escaping my mind right now. If I think of them I'll come back and post again! Thanks ladies!

Hello. My husband finished all his schooling last summer. I'll give you the info I have & can remember. lol
Well no matter what rate he gets he will have to do BESS, ATT, TECNO & A school. He will be in Groton for around a year. Yes all schooling is done there. Unless there is a C school needed. More so if he has hold times, like my husband did. Schooling is completely different from bootcamp. Depending on the instructors he gets it could be worst. I do believe that ET has the longest schooling. My husband is an ETComm. It would be nice if the guys could give preference to what the would like but it doesn't seem to happen. The SECT- ET FT STS group offers a lot of info on schooling times and info you maybe looking for.

Things have changed drastically since we were doing this, so I wont get into specific class lengths. We were able to move to be with him after he finished BESS. For us that was 3 months after he arrived. He had to spend some time waiting to class up.

How long after BESS,well graduation did you have to wait before he got orders? My husband graduates next Friday :)

That's what my hubby said on the phone today! "You are going to love it here, I can't wait to get you out here." He's been there just over a day and I think he is already hopelessly smitten. :)
