Eaglemom - I'm planning on driving up, maybe Fri. night, more likely Sat. morning. I'm not as organized as Elaine :), so I don't know what I'll be wearing yet. Glad it's 11:30 - gives me more time to get there! Any special place there that we're meeting? It's been a very hectic week, so I apologize if I'm asking something that's been posted already, but are we eating lunch there, or should I get something on the way?

Eaglemom-I will be wearing a Vinson Homecoming gray t-shirt and Navy Blue Vinson tennis hat with my hair in a ponytail. I am so looking forward to meeting some new friends. Oh, and blue jeans. LOL.

Thanks for asking!

Eaglemom - I'm so sorry not to be able to make this gathering.  I am so glad that you are getting it together!  Meet and greets are so much fun!  Hope everyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area makes it!

Cecelia, I've been going to West-Orange's inservices and they tell me that I have a job - but I have not signed a contract yet.  I'm still hoping a bit for Beaumont or Port Arthur (they both pay a whole lot more).

Once week 2 begins, they will start receiving their mail. Some Divisions get their mail earlier, some later. Discipline can delay it, and not having anyone volunteer to be the Mail Person can delay it. During my son's BC, no one volunteered, so it was week three before they got any of our mail and it was stressed that unless someone stepped up it would be another week before they would hand out mail! Remember that the 1st week they are there is P week, week 1 is our 2nd week with them in BC. They love joke sheets that they can pass around and then throw away if necessary. About week 5 (for me) I sent a large SASE so he could return any mail he wanted to keep. They do not have any idea of how much postage anything costs, so I just put 8 Forever stamps (I wanted that mail to come home).  Most SRs don't know it only takes one stamp to mail a letter home. If you can when you write, send them a SASE in each letter with a questionaire or a blank piece of notebook paper. Saves them time and money from having to go purchase materials! and then they can just mail it and not spend 30 minutes writing everything down!

I only sent one letter a week, but I also knew he was getting them from several other people too. Eventually had to send him a flat-rate envelope so he could send a bunch back - said he didn't have much room, and didn't want to get in trouble for the 'clutter' in his drawer.

On another note, just wanted to share a conversation I had while shopping with my daughter last Sunday. We were at Victoria's Secret (of all places), waiting for my daughter to try on a bra, and overheard a lady in front of us (oddly enough, shopping with her mother), when I heard them say something about a military discount. I asked the lady if she was in the military, and she said yes, she had just gotten back from a tour in the middle east (don't remember where). I told her my son was in the Navy, (she's Army) and she said she has a whole different appreciation for the Navy after being there, and that the Navy was what kept them safe, because we have the BIG guns. Made me feel pretty good, and proud, too. :)
