Hey Ladies-  I'm not sure why I haven't joined this group sooner. I guess I've been feeling a little overwhelmed keeping up with PIR, division and bootcamp! My SR has PIR next week! I can't wait.

Justa- I too am from Arlington. So howdy neighbor! We booked our flights exactly as you, hoping we'd get to spend time with our SR all weekend, but it doesn't look like that will happen. She is going to San Antonio, so we're hoping to spend some time with her there.

Justa - one more thing - my son had to be back at his barracks by 7:30 on Friday night.  We thought it would be 9 but it wasn't.  If your son flys out of Midway, the USO is behind security - we had to go to the ticket counter to find our son - it was upstairs.  We really enjoyed the time at the airport - kept running into people and hearing stories from boot.

The back pack MUST be plain - we brought one from home and had to pry off a little gold medallion.  My son loved his toys at the airport - loved his IPOD on the flight!

Justatexan89.... check the groups to see if there is one for Groton, CT A school. Some of the veteran Moms on there might be able to give you information about the weekend and leaving.  I did that for my Nuke school son and found out he could have two bags to carry on (his laptop and a backpack). He had to stuff his overcoat into his seabag, but he loved having his laptop bag and all his other toys in the other!

This is terrific advice Elaine- Thank you so much!    We will do exactly what you suggest and see him off from the airport Saturday morning if that is when he is scheduled out.  My husband and I intentionally booked our return home on Sunday in case there was an opportunity to spend anytime with him.   He will be in school for 7-8 months in CT.

Justatexan89, if all goes as it has in the past, he will be at the airport in the wee hours of Saturday morning, if you want to see him there, you can meet him and stay with him until his flight leaves. Many parents have done this. You can then give him his laptop and cell phone and Ipod, if he has these things. Make sure you pick up a plain BLACK backpack, you can get one at the NEX on Green Bay Road. Being at the airport means a few more hours with him that you won't regret. Having his cell phone means he can call you when he gets to Groton. That kind of freedom is priceless. You may only get a few hours of sleep on Friday night but can catch up when you get back from the airport. Figure out a place to meet him, usually the USO, and enjoy a few more hours of catching up. PIR is an experience not soon forgotten, have a great time and give that Sailor a big hug from all us Navy Moms.

Hello from Arlington, TX.   Our son graduates bootcamp on June 17th 2 weeks from tomorrow!   He is on ship 09. We purchased our airline tickets yesterday to fly to Chicago on Thursday 6/16 as graduation is on a Friday.  I made dinner reservations for Friday in downtown Chicago and will have to take him back to the base by 9:00 pm.  We don't know if we will be able to see him on Saturday,   I booked our flights back to Arlington for Sunday 6/19 not knowing if we would be able to spend anytime with him over the weekend.  Our sailor has been assigned to submarine school in Groton, CT. and we don't know how soon after graduation he will be leaving.   Does anyone out there know?

andbran glad that you heard from your son!  It is amazing how just hearing their voice makes us feel so much better.  I had my house phone forwarded to my cell phone the entire time my son was in BC I don't think I could have handled missing a call from him.  Halfway through with BC - that is awesome.  Are you going to PIR?
