Every command in the Navy has an ombudsman, usually the wife of a Chief or higher rank, that is the liasion between the command and the enlisted family members. They are the people who let you know what is going on with your sailor's ship or duty station. My son's ship has 6 of them, I think. Check on the Reagan N4M site and find out how to contact one. On my son's ship, we get email about all sorts of things that are going on. Meetings, community service projects, picnics, etc. I can't attend any of it, I live in Texas, the ship is ported somewhere else. But at least I can keep up with things about the ship. When the ship comes back from deployment, they are the ones with the information about the night before party, anything special they are doing to decorate, (ours is pillowcases decorated for our sailor and all will be sewn together, sent to the ship and hung in one of the hangar bays), setting up special places on the pier for new dads to meet their babies, all sorts of stuff. In short, the Ombudsman is your lifeline to life on the ship and they are well-trained and versed in everything about what is happening.

Not a stupid question at all Brian's Mom; I was about to ask the same thing!

Brian's Mom, check on USS Ronald Reagan Families on N4M's. It looks like a very active site. We are here for you, and just like you we have the same concerns and worries. Get ombudsman information and contact one so you know what is going on weekly with meetings or just info. New adventure for him and you, adjustment time is necessary. He is busy, lots to learn, and his LPO (Lead Petty Officer) is getting with him to make sure he is doing okay. Any questions, ask away. If we can't answer, we find someone who can. Have a great day.

I joined this site to hear how other moms and their kids are doing being new to all of this. My son left from A school in Pensacola to his duty station in San Diego about 3 weeks ago. He left San Diego less than a week ago to join his ship, the USS Ronald Reagan. I had the chance to talk to him for about 3 minutes after he got to the ship and he sounded really down. I am praying he gets better and adjusts quickly. I don't like him being depressed.
