Hello all - my son just got stationed on the Blue Ridge at the end of Sept so was glad to find this group. I do have some experience with Japan, having lived there for 3 years when I was in the Air Force, so if anyone has questions, I will try to help. Nice to meet you all.

You can either plan way in advance, yes when ship is in port or can do like we do and plan it in a few weeks lol. If your son gets housing when you go that would help with cost, but we stayed stayed at the BOQ on base and it was cheap and had a little kitchenette with dishes so I would take the shuttle or walk to the Nex and grocery shop which saved a lot too.

I'm sure he'll like it. My husband went straight to the BR and spent all his time in Japan. Like everyone says, make sure if you have a chance to go over there, do so. If you need anything else post away!

well, I thought it might be nice to see one of him relaxing and having a good time with some Aussie girls.  Glad he is enjoying himself and loving his job.  Most the time anyway!  (somebody's got to paint the ship, right Molly?

all right, I'll stop hogging the page now.  I'd almost given up hope of ever getting to see him, so when I saw this pic, it was like - oh no! the face is in the dark, he's fading, fading....  LOL

Hard to believe so much time has passed while I've been working and going down to take care of my parents.  Its one of those salary positions where you may work 50 but mostly its 60 and sometimes 70 hours a wk.  Linn, I love the pic of you and Kathy.  Priceless.   Ash, will Rob ever go back to the BR or is he stateside for good?  Its hard to catch up.  Since not seeing Patrick for 2 Thanksgivings and 2 Christmas', he will go to Virginia in October for some more schooling, this time SAMI, then come home in November.   I've already warned them at work not to expect to see a lot of me, but in reality, if I have to be there to get the job done, I have to go in.   For you newbies, the FB page of the USS BR has been good to this momma.  (as with Danielle - mucho photo ops) so I will put some here, and thank you all for alerting me to them on FB when I havn't had time to even be on FB.  Hugs to all.

No problem. I've been there and done that and now get to enjoy my husband being home :)
