Yes that's the first thing they make them get is a cell phone so they can keep in touch with them.
Katie kept saying she's 25 and has a 3 year old mom don't ya think she'd know better. But if she has a 3 year old she's been tied down I'm sure. I think all of these Sailors go through a period where they get a little wild. When my daughter first went to Italy, she went through 4 months of wildness and this was my sweet quite child LOL. See the drinking age in Italy was 18 well she was 19 so she had her share of good times. I told her she was all of a sudden my wild child and I didn't know who she was, thank god that only lasted 4 months!! But what an expensive 4 months it was!! She spent money like it was growing on trees, she over drafted her checking account, she was out drinking all the time. I told her it's OK to spend the money as long as you know it's in there!! She learned some hard lessons that's for sure.

Have him get a sponsor. Maybe Jonis can be his?? Kathleen has Jonis been a sponsor yet?? I think they try to give them a sponsor from the dept. they are going too. The sponsor will give them all of the details that they need to know plus picking them up at the airport is part of there job of being a sponsor. Did I tell you all about Katie being a sponsor for the first time?? I don't think I did. Well Katie is only 22 OK the girl she was sponsoring was 25, Katie had been emailing her and had told her that she and Matt would pick her up at the airport, They drive 2 hours to the airport to pick this girl up well the girl decides she's going to take the bus with the people she met on the plane, so Katie had driven all this ways for nothing so Katie says fine I'll meet you ate the ship. She meets the girl she shows her where she needs to be she tells her all of the rules, the very 1st night the girl is there she's late coming back to the ship she misses her curfew, they came and asked Katie where her girl was Katie said I have no idea, they checked the racks the girl wasn't there well she'd been out drinking with these guys she had just met. The net day the girl claimed she was is her rack sleeping well the officer in charge asked the person who checked the racks to show him where she checked, then had this girl show him well gee it was the same rack so she was in trouble the very first night there. The 2nd night Katie was on watch and someone came and asked her where's your girl at she's past her curfew again Katie was like I have no idea. Well when Katie got a break she went to check the racks the girl was passed out on the floor in front of the racks, so she called up to her office and asked the guys to come help her get this girl up and to medical. Well the girl came too and was crying and all. So she was in trouble again. Katie said this is not the way to start out on a ship, Katie kept saying she's 25 you'd think she'd know better mom. Well the 3rd night came Katie was off it's 11:30 PM her cell phone rings it's this girl telling Katie she took the wrong train and was going the opposite direction as the ship, she asks Katie to call for her, Katie told her she would be that she needed to call herself also. She said the girls curfew was at 10:30 or something like that. So the girl was in trouble again. I don't think Katie wants to be a sponsor again LOL after this experience. But I'm sure she will be.

I know when Katie first got her orders, she was soo excited, she called to tell me and she said Mom I got my orders I said great what did you get she said The Flagship, I was like OK what's that, she said mom it's the Admirals Ship, I said OK but where will u be going she said Yokosuka Japan, I was like What??? What happened to the States where your mom could see you more often?? she said mom aren't u happy for me I said yeahh sure Katie she said you don't sound happy, I said let me get over the shock first. See she was already stationed in Naples Italy and had been there for 2 years and she kept saying I think we'll be going to Norfolk VA, so when she said Japan I was freaked out at first, but she loves it and that's all that matters!! She does call home at least once a week!! Yes Skype is great, that is when your sailor turns it on!!!! Geeze I want to go visit but haven't yet I'm thinking like maybe Next year, gosh wouldn't it be neat for us all to go the same time...... Ohhh the fun we would Have :))) This group is great all of our Sailors know about it and a few of them have ran into each other already. Katie & Jonis Kathleen's son have met. Katie's good at giving him messages right Kathleen LOL :)) Katie said that they were talking about heading back early. Ya know I just thought of something you asked about Katie calling from the middle of the ocean, well she works in an office and the phone is right there, so she just picks it up and dials when she wants. I asked her if she gets in trouble for doing that she said no. She could be using a calling card I'm not sure I'll have to ask her.

Hi Molly,
Welcome to Our Blue Ridge Family!! The Blue Ridge is an awesome ship to be stationed on!! Yes it is the World's Finest Flagship!! What I was amazed at was all of the Community Service projects they do and do well!! My daughter has been there a year and has 2 more to do. She's an IT on the ship. She's loving Japan and her Journey so far on the BR. What does your Sailor do? We love having this group because we all try to keep in touch with each other and when we hear from our Sailors we let each other know. In fact I heard that they may be returning early to Yokosuka anyone else hear this? They were supposed to be back Mid Nov. but who knows now.

On FB did u all read the article from the Carin News about the protester jumping in the water? People are crazy!! It's the same link as below that Kathy just posted. Katie said she didn't know why they pulled in so late well this is why.

hey have any of you watched any of the videos of the Blue Ridge on You Tube?? some are pretty funny, I was just watching 1 and man they sure don't have very much room in there rack areas, looks like if they turn over they'll hit there head.

According to Katie they are just out there floating around waiting for payday to hit so they have money to spend in Carins LOL!! Katie has been calling quite a bit lately too, she does the same thing calls at all hours then says ohh what time is it there LOL. But hey we all love those calls any time day or night!! She's funny she's been doing her Christmas shopping online, so she calls and asks her dad about sizes of pants for her hubby, then she calls back and said I ordered something for Matt but they won't ship to me so can ya send it when u get it mom!!
