@ times difference is 2 hours behind pacific standard time

The Sailor has to get the (temp or perm) parking decal when we got ours on the friday before deployment she had to be present with her id her name on the car registration which i had to call our ins co in nv and have her added and then email to the decal office while we waited!  Not sure if they make allowances if sailor is not there, and we already have  permanent decal on son in laws car so will not have to worry about that when she comes back, but the line at sd can be very long so allow plenty of time and they close at 4pm!!

They also told the sailors that the packages if not in Hawaii now for delivery will follow the ships from port to port so hopefully they will get them sometime lol

They did tell the sailors where they will be going next - 2 possible ports!!  And they have to spend tomorrow bringing on board a ton of food!!  Bridgette said that the food had got better although chicken 4-5 days in a row!!  I wonder if they rotate the Marine Chef and Navy Chef ill have to ask her when she calls again!  I hope they get to spend a little time ashore although schedule is tight!!

@navynana   time difference is 3 hrs behind Pacific standard I believe.

@ Michelle I packed the jars in bubble wrap. I used the pint or 1/2 pint jars and made sure there was other stuff around the inside edges of the box I can only get 5-6 in a box.    the jars I guess are treated like any other trash..probably dumped into the ocean with trash dump.

and all 3 ships have different FPO addresses..  the flag ship is likely to get the mail first and then pass the bags onto the smaller ship in the group.

last time out the ombudsman helped with details on how to get on base.  They had a list of details and it sounded really strict but that day it wasn't.  They needed your picture ID to match the name on a car registration or rental car agreement.

the FPO/APO boxes are flat rate boxes but only 2 of the sizes I think it's their med and Lg   qualify for the reduced rate if your post office does not have those sizes with the special military writing on them I'm sure they can direct you to which boxes are the right sizes and yes fill out the customs label ahead of time speeds things up.   I have never gotten really specific on contents but use general terms,   (somethings are forbidden in certain countries)

the facebook page that I know of that the ombudsman are making comments on currently has a picture of the ship and is titled USS Comstock LSD-45  for some reason it's listed as a local business page

I keep hearing about priority boxes and APO/FPO boxes is there a difference...because all I can find at my post office are priority.

Elaine L-- I like the idea of the pie in a jar and I am going to try those in a couple of weeks, but what is the best way to pack them and what do the sailors do with the glass jar after its empty?

Dee - saw you were from Michigan -- I'm in Farmington Hills. Welcome to the site.  This is my LO 1st deployment and have gotten a lot of ideas from the others on this and other sites, Will have to buy some candy to use as packing material - great idea !

Boatswains mate are pronounced Bos'n mate. Its one of the oldest rates in the navy. They concentrate on maintenance and up keep of the ship. they also land helicopters on the flight deck and launch the rhibs and LCACS(the small amphib. boats). Things like that.
