ccNavyMom, At this time I don't have any information about the deployment. I will certainly share any with you when we get it. My grandson will be home this weekend so we are hoping to nail down more details, but he doesn't say much. My neighbor had her grandson deploy a few months back from San Diego and they had a luncheon and parents could go onboard, which would be nice. The Navy did encourage our sailor to take leave now since he'll be gone for so long. We're happy for that time. I'll send a friend request and we can chat on email.

Welcome ccNavyMom. I continue to learn things ever time I'm on this site. I guess it's because our sailors situations are constantly changing. We are 2 hours north of San Diego so that has been nice. The ship is underway at this moment but due back later this week. My grandson has been there since August. They deploy in Feb. Let's stay in touch as we all go through this together. All the best to your sailor. Let me now if I can help in any way.

Your daughter will get a packet of instructions and a sponsor assigned to her to help her get settled in. Much of this information will be in there. Is her name on the car registration also?

32nd street - you have to go to the decal office near the main gate on Harbor Bl. to get the appropriate decal to take the car on base. Insurance, registration, Drivers License. You can not even go on base for a day without stopping there first. The line goes pretty fast. We took him to SD at first and then when he got settled he drove his car down to get the decal.

Did he happen to say where the ship was 32nd st or north island that will make looking for an apartment easier. Bridgettes husband will be bringing his car so she will be using that for work.

I looked for a site as well, but they had no comments for some time so I knew they were not current. Good, maybe we'll get some new additions. First of all, San Diego is a great place to be stationed (but expensive). When he first arrived there in August he was in indoc and had some free time and fun. Now he is working all the time. They have been taking the ship out for certs. and drills and standing watch. All the real Navy stuff. Guess they have to be prepared for deployment. Having his car makes a big difference and he comes home when time allows. We expect to have him home for the holidays this year.
