Good morning everyone...

I got a call from my sailor about the holiday schedule...we had talked about it and he decided that he really would like to take the second break and come home for New Years...he said he wanted those that were fathers and married to spend Christmas with their families. I was so proud of him at that moment for not being selfish. I think we might put off our gift exchanging until he gets home!!!! We will still celebrate the birth of Christ but without the hoopla of the gifts...we will have the true meaning of Christmas not get away from us...

He has been in San Diego since September 3rd going to school (there was a change in the start of class and his ship was not informed so he has been there all the time in the Navy Lodge (which he actually gets to sleep in a queen bed!). He had to spend his birthday all alone and I felt bad for him but he took it rather well...he is to return to ship next week which I think he is sort of looking forward to getting back to his friends, although he has met some new ones as well.

Sometimes I feel guilty about the things I do with my daughter...our little outings we go on....but when I am with my son I try to make every little second count as I will when he comes home for New Years.

Sorry for being so long. Thanks for letting me vent. Please everyone have a blessed day!!! Debbie.

Belated thanks for the welcome Carolyn & Debbie.  My son spent his birthday in Great Lakes last year too - the first one away from home.  Fortunately, I have relatives a little north of Great Lakes so my cousin took him for Thanksgiving weekend.  I think it was harder for all of us than for him.  I have 7 kids, 2 son-in-laws, one almost daughter-in-law - you'd think we would hardly notice one was missing...lol...but we all did.

I would also like to welcome Jaimers and Candace to the DeWert. My son has been on the DwWert for a little over a year now. He is currently in San Diego for additional schooling and will be returning soon. Unfortunately he will have his birthday out there away from his DeWert family and of course us, but that is Navy life!!!! Again welcome.

Thank you Carolyn ... Im so glad to hear you talk about the Dewert as a "FAMILY" love that !!!.

My son called today and is very happy to know the DeWert will be home soon and he'll actually have a ship!  I know how you feel, Jaimers, Alex was in GL all last year and will be going to San Diego sometime next year for more school.  I'm fortunate all my other kids are very close by, except for one daughter who is going to graduate school and living with her husband in Norway.  Its great to see them grow up and follow their dreams, it'd just be nice if their dreams kept them close to home :)  But I'm very proud to be the mom of a sailor and part of the USS DeWert family.
