So, happy to have found this group. Mine son just got to the Essex earlier this month. I tried looking for other moms on FB. But so far have not found anyone.

ValK - I just read about the family cruise day on here a couple of days ago. He's leaving for San Diego on Tuesday. Don't know what happens after that. I would love to visit this summer, but again, don't know what he's going  to be up to so we'll just have to wait and see. How long has your sailor been undes? Does he like it?

Lorraine - Yes, my sailor man is undesignated.  How did you find out about family cruise day?

Does anyone else  have a sailor who is undesignated?

Thanks guys. I feel a little better now. My son is undesignated.

There is a family cruise day on the Essex next week.  I think the sign up deadline was May 9th.  For families of sailors to go on a day cruise on the Essex.  My family is flying out there for it.  It will be such an honor to be on the ship our son serves on.

USS Essex Ombudsman and USS Essex LHD2 Facebook have the latest news and pictures. Same rules apply for safety.

Lorraine, the ship is up and running. Our sailors have warm meal now. No more fast food or can food. Undesinated sailors do the dirty work. They need our love and support. As do all our sailors. Does anyone know if there will be a open ship so we family can see the finished ship. When I dropped my sailor off two years ago I got a wonderful tour.

Lorraine- what's his rate? My husband loves it! He starts at 6 and is home between 1-4. The 18 hour shifts are "cranking" I believe. My husband said it's 0300-2100 for 3 months
