The info is still the same. The Cable is currently in port but will be leaving to go to dry docks in a little bit. Once he gets here he will find out if he is following the ship to drydock or if he is staying behind and working here in Guam. He will have a barracks room on land unless he is high ranking enough to live out in town or in housing. He will need to stay on the ship for a few days when he first arrives so that they can set him up.  He can set up internet in his barracks room. Cell phones are readily available.

Hi Brenda! I have scrolled back and looked at posts but they all seem so old and with as quick as things change in the Navy I wanted to make sure I was getting updated info. Is the ship currently docked or at sea? Does your son have a barracks  on land and then just takes the necessities when he's on the Cable? Is internet readily available? What about cell phones? I have a lot more questions but I will give you a break for now! Thank you so much...any info helps....it is really starting to sink in that he will be gone for 4 years. Has your son visited home in the last 3 years?

@ Lynda When ever I mail boxes to my boys I just use the USPS and send the Medium Flat rate box it cost like 10.95 and the box can weigh up to 75 lbs. I pick up a couple boxes each time I go to the PO. I mail boxes to both my sailors that way.

That's great luvinmatt! Kristy, you just reminded me: the ONE time I got my husband on Skype with his mom (who he loves very much but she only ever hears from me) we had a great conversation for over an hour. Then when we got off the skype he choked up (he NEVER chokes up) and said, "this is why I don't call home. It makes it harder." I was stunned and just teared right up. I didn't realize how hard it was on him because he is so happy go lucky. I hope that helps.
