Happy Red Friday GW Group.....
Yup, heard the same "sailor" words from my sailor...he's been on a boat more then land and wasn't impressed with where they were...too bad, he was looking forward to it since the last deployment was in the middle east....well, he did find some good food...
My friend went there this summer, said it's a really poor, dirty city....she stayed at a private house on the edge of town and didn't go into the "city" much...lots of poverty, pick pockets and just thieves there...warned my sailor to keep his phone and wallets in a button-up pocket....guess it's part of seeing the world...seeing the poor (Lima), the rich (Dubai), the ugly (Abu Dhabi), the pretty (Hawaii), the dangerous (Bahrain) and the safest (Perth)....:)
joshmom....that sounds like a blast! are you a good witch or a bad witch?....lol
Thank you BeachBunny, joshmom, and JH4JH for care package ideas. When he was on the RR and a destroyer they were only for a few months and he said no packages. :) He is with the Blue Hawks, swimmer. Have the boxes, shopping tomorrow and shipping Saturday morning. I like the idea of purchasing items each time I go shopping!
BeachBunny thank you for the article and the photos!
Welcome to the couple of new members to the group....
If you want to you can follow new members to welcome them, click on link under the members pictures on the right or just notice the member count changing....it changes when members leave too...:)
I was teasing my son that he'll get his box on the next replenishment, actually he got it on the port replenishment...got a short email..."got the care package, thanks mom"...
Package took 2.5 weeks to get to him, which is pretty good..last deployment most took 3-4 weeks, one 6 weeks....time to start another box...I just tape a box and place it on the shelf and buy a few things every time I go to the store and about 2 weeks later it's full and ready to send out...thinking the next one will have smoked salmon, cheese and crackers, he liked that on the last cruise....bought the food at World market so it was non-refrigerated type snacks.caramel corn was a big hit too.
**Do you know, that when in port the sailors can sign up to volunteer on a service project??

Even teach kids sports...151005-N-RG522-426 LIMA, Peru (Oct. 5, 2015) Sailors from aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) play basketball with local children at a community relations event
I got a FB message..."getting some food and drinks call you later", that was 2 days ago...:))....
finally called late last night.....oh, those boys....gotta love them....:))
said he didn't get the package...told him it's been on it's way for 2 weeks from Chicago...maybe the next replenishment...I too put a Halloween mask in there....
last deployment MWR had stuff delivered to the ship for each holiday, there's were shop, door, dept deco contest, parties on the flight deck, on no fly days, mine said he missed them bc he was working in the hangar bay on the birds....some movies and sports events on the big screen in the hangar bay...when near a port they'd have comedians or singers flown out for entertainment.....not sure about this deployment haven't heard of anything yet....
Right, coffee creamer, there's some non refrigerator kinds now....I send the "season" favors...this box has the pumpkin spice and hazel nut for fall...hummm next box vanilla (snow) and mint....funny haven't sent TP yet.
