If anyone has the address for the family of Calvin, please make me a friend and send it to me. HAE really does want to make a special pillowcase for the family.

abc, I was referring to cheapair but I do appreciate the heads up. I was uneasy about it because I had not heard of it before. I have dealt with Travelocity and Expedia, both of which have been fine for me. My sailor was the one who asked me to check Cheapair. The price differential is less than $100 so I am not sure it is worth it.

yes, yes...please everyone stay away from cheapOair.com. it's just the strangest company i've ever dealt with. they take your credit card info first and THEN jack up the price...i've never seen that before. usually, your credit card locks in the price you see.
and to mollie: the thing is, they don't upcharge you without your knowledge...the REAL sting comes when you realize your ticket has been cancelled and you don't have a flight! YET, you still see the money taken out of your account and it is being "held" by cheapoair. this is exactly what happened to me. i had no choice but to buy the higher-priced ticket through them because my flight was DAYS away and we didn't have time to wait for the refund so we could buy a ticket elsewhere. ($3000 ticket).

so anyways, got a surprise phone call from my sailor just now and i guess he ate really good for the navy's bday! haha. he had to stand watch right before dinner and was starving, so he went crazy! he had crab legs, a t-bone steak, and cheesecake! aww~ i'm glad, they deserve to eat well once in awhile!

to stephsmom, your daughter had soup??? what a jip! haha. :) maybe next year, she can race to the front of the line.

alright ladies, that's all i got for now...hope everyone is having a great night and hey, if anyone is in the chicago area in november, you are all invited to my wedding! :) how crazy would that be, a table reserved for "N4M". :)

abc....I was also referring to cheapOair.....maybe cheapair is different. I was alerted to CheapO by you thank heavens, or I might have thought I was getting a "real deal", only to be stung when the bill arrived.

to kelcie's mom & dc g'mother...are you talking about cheapOair? not sure if that's different than "cheapair". if it IS cheapOair.com, pleeease stay away from them! they are the ones who almost screwed up my whole singapore visit. awful!!! and if you're talking about a different company...then i guess you can disregard this whole message :)

stephsmom....Well that stinks!! Don't these airlines know that military leaves CAN'T all take place at the same time???? Does Steph have her military passport? She should, I think it was required before they left the US for Japan. I'm sure you could use that passport# if you can get it from her.

Hi ladies, just be careful on CheapAir, as I found out when booking my upcoming flight to Japan, as MANY of their prices do NOT include taxes, which in many cases are almost as much as the ticket itself. I'm pretty sure that all of our military have "military passports", that get them to and from Japan, but when Kelcie was getting ready to leave, someone told her to be sure to get a "full civilian passport" as well, or there were certain limits on things that she could do in the various ports of call. She applied for hers while home on leave just before heading to Yokosuka, it took about 3 weeks, and when it came I just mailed it to her. I hope she has remembered to get it stamped at every port visit, so she has a permanent momento.

I am so sorry about First Class Calvin's passing. His family will be in my prayers. I would appreciate receiving the address of Calvin's family if anyone has it. Heads at Ease makes special pillowcases for the family who have lost a military person.

I checked out CheapAir last night and Kayak this morning for flights from Tokyo to Maine. CheapAir was better, especially with connections. Stephsmom, I agree with choosing to fly the more southern route. Especially in the winter I would avoid Chicago and New York. I also think it is wise to minimize the number of stops. Coming into Maine, one has to stop somewhere but it is better not to have lots of stops. Then you lessen the risk of being delayed and missing a flight.

Got an email from Kelcie, she said she was called into "Admin" at the end of her shift this morning. She was told that when they port back in Yokosuka, she will be taking over as "Watch Commander" of "Delta Section" She is a little apprehensive, as she will be in charge of about 30 people, so is also somewhat excited. I'm glad that she is being given the opportunity for more leadership experience :-) Don't know if she has ever worked in this section before, it would be nice if she had, cause that way, at least some of the people know her.

Moose, after reading your comment about the Marine who was killed in Thailand, I searched on the Internet for it. He was an ex-Marine who had gone to Thailand to learn a form of kick boxing. He ended up in a bar fight with a Brit, who was also a bullying, kick boxer. The Marine was his match and the fight was broken up by people in the bar. The Brit hunted him down and stabbed him. Unfortunately, this type of thing also occurs in this country, where service personnel are needlessly stabbed in bars or by people who track them down later.

I do agree with you, however, that there is more safety when the sailors travel in a group.
