ginnylyn.....that's a tough one for sure!! I would be a little concerned, if he was thinking of revisiting Thailand, without a group of people with him. There is such safety in numbers. On the other hand, he is 23, and you don't to alienate him, or wind up with resentment between you. Procrastination would be VERY tempting indeed, but it's probably better if you talk with him about your concerns and then go from there. I looooooong ago realized that this "mothering" gig never ends. Darn......and I thought it was just an 18 year committment :-)

Claudia, I think almost all people respond better if treated with respect. Meanness tends to produce mean actions, even if they are subtle.

abc, it is good to know that military people can change flights without penalty. There is too often a likelihood that orders will change.

abc, that's an awesome price!!! I'm paying that much from San Francisco!! Toooo cool that he got such a good deal. Great info for you to pass on to others :-) You aren't excited to see him and tie the knot are you??? :-)
stephsmom....thanks for the info on the cruise book photo's my sailorette hasn't said a word about it. I'll be sure I put a bug in her ear to be sure not to miss the photo session. I don't have any "official" pictures of her. She didn't like her pic from bootcamp, so didn't purchase any :(

just an fyi, my sailor just booked a flight ticket home and he DIRECTLY called american airlines and got a roundtrip ticket for $900 to chicago, which is a FANTASTIC deal. the cheapest i was finding online was about $1100. i guess it's cheaper to call aa rather than booking online. he also got a military discount. also, they're allowing him to make changes to his flight schedule if necessary without penalty (military benefit)....just letting you know, it might be work checking out. :)

Honeybee, I don't think it's a "downer" at all. And I couldn't agree with you more. Indeed, I hope our sailors learn from these port visits, and appreciate all of the benefits we have here in the good old USA. I hope and pray that these kinds of port visits serve to open their eyes and hearts to the inhumanity that some must endure, and use the experience as a stepping stone towards making the world a better place when they get out. Also hope that our sailorettes don't hesitate to remind the sailors that what they see while in these ports is absolutely unacceptable!

Kelcie said that the poverty and the existance of females in both the Philipines and Thailand was VERY sad to see. I think we have just begun to hear about human trackifing here in our country within the last couple of years, but it is SO prevelent in those 3rd world countries. Stephsmom, I'm like you, always worry if I know that for some reason there isn't going to be guys with her when she is out and about, but there almost always is. I also breath a sigh of relief when she is safe and sound back onboard the GW. This is the first time that she has had more than one overnight liberty while in port though.

Ginnlynn, I am like you. I breathed a sigh of relief to know my sailor was back and on board safe and sound.

Honeybee, I agree with you about the industry that exists in Thailand. I know that my G'daughter found it very offensive. She is still venting about it. Hey, that's what I am here for ... to listen to her venting and sympathy.

ps- please warn your sailors (if they are male).... if you see a hot girl in asia who is over 5 ft. 6 in, it is most likely a boy. :) stay away!

haha! my sailor was dragged to a ladyboy show. basically, it's a vegas-style show of guys dressed up as girls in really crazy costumes. "ping pong shows" are another interesting one. i actually googled all this stuff when my sailor told me about it! he did manage to stay away from the "sex shows" which are very popular there, but i heard through the grapevine that some gw sailors got really crazy! i hope everyone stayed safe because it is not worth it to get into trouble this way!

hi ladies! personally, i am glad to have my sailor leave thailand. from a girlfriend's perspective, thailand sounds like trouble! haha. my sailor didn't get a whole lot of liberty time, but i've heard some crazy stories that i can't even discuss on here. well, i hope each and one of you ladies got some talk time w/ your loved ones. and hang in there a little longer...this deployment should be over soon enough!
