Thanks so much ladies, I WILL take a ton of pictures, especially on the cruise. If you know the date that they are due back in Yokosuka, the cruise it is the Saturday RIGHT after they get back into home port.
Everybody will probably be hearing from their sailors over the next several days...yippee!!!
Soccercyn.....my hubby can tend to do that also, so I just grab another phone, that way I don't miss out on much, and she doesn't have to repeat the same thing to me that she just told her dad :-)

Mollie, we expect to hear all the good news about your trip and see pictures. We are excited for you.

SANDRA, I don't know if the date is public knowledge yet or not but I am sure that if you contact the GW Ombudsman, she will give it to you. Does his girlfriend have the return date into Yokosuka? As I understand it, the cruise is very shortly after that ... before people disperse.

Got my ticket booked ladies :-) :-) Will fly into Tokyo, spend the night, then go to the base the next day to surprise my sailor by showing up at the Friends and Family Cruise!! How in the world am I going to keep my lips zipped for a month??? Sue my passport came in only 2 weeks, and I thought that was quick. I HAD to take that as the sign to "Go for it".

Penny, if you get on the GW Ombudsman's e-mail list (gw3ombudsman@yahoo.com), you can get a flyer about it and other information. You might need to have your sailor sign you up as a guest. Many years ago I went on a dependent's cruise. We went on board the carrier early in the morning and cruised with it all day, returning to port early evening. On the cruise I went on, the planes were launched and recovered. It is an opportunity to visit the ship and get a feel of what it is like to be at sea on the ship. It is definitely fun. If you are planning to go to Japan and want to go at this time, it is well worth it.

It is great to see that the GW is in port. I thought they might go into Guam since they did Operation Valiant Shield near there. Was wrong but it is fun to try to guess ports.

Okay ladies......my passport came today!!!! Yippee!!! Looking on the Kayak site, and a LOT more flights just opened up on United. Priced at $883.00 from San Francisco. Thinking I will probably stay the night in Tokyo before hopping a train to Yoko the next day. I'm starting to get REALLY excited :-) :-)

Please do remind them if traveling through Seattle or other airports to use the USO... they can shower, grab a sandwich, take a nap or just play xbox for a bit while waiting for a connection!! All it takes is a copy of their military id!! I hear all the time that sailors say they did not know about the USO or how to use it!!

Susan, that's a neat trick to arrive before you left. :-)

I was looking at tickets for our G'daughter to come in January. Returning was tricky because of layovers and timing of leaving. I figure she needs to allow an extra day of travel ... just in case of bad weather. If she arrives back on time, she will have time to adjust some to the time change.

Catching a "hop" is a great way but one needs to have the price of a return ticket just in case there is no space when returning.

I checked Kayak.com yesterday and then followed up with Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity. The prices were all over the place.
