Claudia, wish your son luck from me, as well.

Mollie, when she was in TX for the training she had a chief that was bound and determined to get her through the schooling. She said when it was time to weigh in again, he would escort her and start arguing with them everytime they said she failed the 'pinch' test. She said it was embarrassing enough, without him fighting for her on top of it, lol. She finally got him to stop by pleading with him. She said he took it as a personal failure on his part. She went on a strict diet, excersized until she was falling down, to no avail. That damn 'pinch' test. She finally agreed to go into culinary school.

I felt bad about it, because she wanted to follow in my footsteps. I felt so horrible for her. She was depressed for a long time over that. Sort of gave up on herself. She's okay now, she taking college courses while she's on the ship, and has her first boyfriend! Lots to keep her mind off of it now, lol.

Oh Claudia, Kelcie used to have to "tape in" also, but being on board the GW has made it easier for her to maintain her weight for some reason?? It's just SO heartbreaking to see good sailors let go because of such a strict rule, without taking into consideration other things like BMI, PRT's etc. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your son.

Claudia, I'm thinking that you are talking about poor Thomas. I miss his mom being a part of our group. It was SO sad what happened to him. I can only hope that he is having a better experience in the Air Force:(

Janis, that's too funny about your daughter taking that jerk to the ground. Kelcie is also small, and freckle faced, but don't EVEN try to mess with her, or you are in for a surprise!!! The base where she was first stationed had a club on base, and even when she was working and in uniform, she dealt with drunk sailors who made that mistake :>) Her cousin actually IS a JAG officer in the Air Force, and she worships him, but I think she would more likely go into law enforcement, than the legal aspect. I just don't think all that schooling is her cup of tea. She to has to be very careful with her weight because she is short. I agree, sometimes the Navy's strict physical requirements cut potentially great sailors out of fields that they would be excellent in.

Hey Mollie, Glad to hear your daughter is doing better on night shift. When I went into security myself, I'll admit, it was a much more preferrable time than first or second shift. It was all about security and safety. Nothing else.

When my daughter joined the Navy, she went into security training (MPs. sorry forgot the Navy term, lol). She went through everything, until the Navy decided she was too 'overweight' (her 'fat' amount was slightly over the limit). Even though she was at the correct weight for her height. She passed all the physical qualifications. I understand that the Navy has to have a limit, but she had passed everything...except that one little thing. She was so disappointed. I felt terrible for her. She would have been good at it. She had the perfect personality for that career.

Well, that training served her well, lol. Some guy decided to get rough with her over a verbal exchange (she was trying to help him, but he refused to listen). She warned him, and so did others that she had self defense training. He didn't listen and well...you guessed it. She got him on the ground. I suppose he thought since she's short, she was an easy target. Lesson learned.

Has your daughter thought about studying law? It appears that she would enjoy that. She sounds like a good candidate for JAG.

Thanks Brandy. She works in security, so she sees sailors treated very differently for the same infractions, and it drives her NUTS.
ginnylynn....I worked nights at the hospital for MANY years for that very same reason. It just seems like "night people" tend to be a more relaxed, less political bunch.

Thanks for your support ladies. Just got an email, she said that she requested a change of "sections" and it was granted, so she is back on nights right now, and away from the worst of things. She sounded more upbeat again, more like her usual self. She did say that there was a line for the email, cause it had been down all day, so they are definitely still having issues with it.

soccercyn.....SOOO glad to hear that your sailors spirits are up!! Kelcie has had some backlash now that a day has gone by. But she has had support also. I guess that the Master Chief told her today that he really appreciated her standing up for the people under her, but SOME of the lower chain of command aren't to happy with her, but she said "Mom, I TRIED to go thru them, but they kept brushing it under the rug!! She is both a survivor and a fighter, and I'm sure that she will continue to do both.

My daughter got 'pre-warned' about military politics (and that's basically what it is-politics). Her Dad was a Sergeant in the Army, and my husband at the time had been in the Navy in the 70s.

Her stepfather and I worked as COs for the state government, and she heard us over the years talking/complaining about government politics. So she grew up hearing it, and when she joined the Navy, we warned her to 'pick her battles' when it came to the government. She heard the same thing from her father. Always, always make sure you document. And whatever you do, make sure you CYA! Lol.

My advice would be to keep a diary/log daily. You would not believe how many times that has helped people through the years when it comes to the government. Unless of course you have worked for the government, then you know exactly what I'm saying, lol. Document EVERYTHING.
