Vicky and Ginger, you both have very good points, and I have pointed this out to Kelcie as well. Unfortunately, there are jerks in ALL walks of life, not just the military. Kelcie is pretty much an "upbeat" person, so when she gets this frustrated, I know things are pretty bad. Did hear from her this morning though, and she said that the talk with the new Master Chief went well, so I was glad to hear that :>)

Okay Liza, Ginger, Soccercyn and Vicky.....I'm just gonna put it out there...chastized or not!! My daughter is ALSO fed up with the abuse of power crap!! She has tried to follow her chain of command, but it hasn't worked. So this morning she was scheduled to have a meeting with the NEW Master Chief. She is not one to sit quietly by and take crap, nor to let the people under her have to take it if there is no good reason!! I told her to maintain her composure, stick to the facts, and write everything down that she wanted to discuss with him, so that her credibility is not questioned. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't face any backlash, but it's a chance SHE is willing to take. Haven't heard from her yet today to hear how it went }:(

oh also to lisa in az... i guess we are talking about a different group of people...so it seems as though there were quite a few who got into a situation in the last port. the friend i'm talking about also got into trouble for something he didn't do and is now waiting to see how he'll get punished.

hey! update for ya on the email situation. it is still going in and out...here's what's been happening. it's the internet going in and out, but their "email"'s work. (how that works, i don't know). so anyways, because of that, the GW has been "storing" all the emails that are coming in or going out and then sending them off when internet services comes back up...if that makes sense. at least, that's what my sailor tells me and i trust that he is at least 75% right. :)

however, i do know that sometime today, the actualy "email" went out...which is why my sailor called me instead. hang in there everyone! i know it's annoying not to hear from our sailors!

I don't *think* that they can open hand written mail being sent to someone else-it is considered a federal offense. Unless they have a reason to, as in a possible national threat, Homeland Security, etc. They would need a warrant from someone high up in the Navy. I suppose a military judge.

Now, it is not the same when someone is in prison. Correction officers in the mail room can open ANY letter, box, etc. coming in, or leaving the institution without any provocation. I never worked in the mail room, but I have been shown a few pics of the inmates girlfriends/wives in all states of undress, (I was walking by the mailroom one night, and one of the COs grabbed me and just HAD to show me... :p) lol.

hi lisa in AZ! a few of my sailor's friends got into some trouble in their last port and are awaiting their punishment. i wonder if we know the same people...or maybe there is more than one group of sailors getting into trouble. i hope not!

To Ginger and Lisa, I am really sorry to hear your sons are having such a rough time of it. Even though my daughter seems to be getting along pretty well with her chief, I'm not going to chastise either one of you. I Hope things get better for your sons.

Becky, A couple of things to remember when checking flights is that the price listed is the pre-tax price. Taxes and fees can add several hundred to the cost of the ticket. Another thing is to remember that your son will lose a day when returning and also may need a day to re-coup. In some of the flights I have checked for my sailor's trip back, arrival in Tokyo is mid-afternoon, too late to get to the base for check-in during normal business hours. You want to be sure that the travel insurance is for any reason because most are for illness or accident, not cancelled leave.

hi becky. it will really depend on when you buy the tickets...unfortunately for me, it's all about just bouncing around from site to site on different days... just be sure to purchase travel insurance in case his leave date changes or gets cancelled. not sure on the ticket cost from tx. but the "ideal, average" cost roundtrip from chicago is $1100-$1200. good luck! i hope you get to go! :)

DC....love the pic's of the rack!! It's gotta help, to be able to personalize what LITTLE amount of personal space that you do have!! Wish the GW was a little more open to it, I'm sure it would help morale!
