Thanks abc.....I'm almost positive that the voting closed with the group at #3, which is JUST FINE. The top 10 vote getters receive funding. I think we will know for sure how much that $ amount will be tomorrow morning. I think that it will be at least $5000.00. That will cover shipping for LOTS of care packages. She runs a totally AWESOME group, and her energy is amazing!! But her ONLY motivation is to be able to let deployed troops know that they are thought of and cared for. I feel so proud to be just a tiny part in such a wonderful wheel.

NavyFam, I have a question ... if you are staying at the Navy Lodge and have a family pass, can you come and go without your Sailor? I was think of being there for a couple weeks and I doubt that she will take leave the whole time, so I was planning to do some sight-seeing on my own, also to meet up with friends I have in Japan. This would mean that I would need to be able to leave and return without my Sailor.

Does anyone know of reasonable hotels near the base in Atsugi?

Thanks for the info abc, I guess it's called "cheapoair" for a reason huh?
NavyFAM, yeah, pulling it off as a surprise is INDEED gonna be tricky (if it happens at all), since she isn't scheduled back into port until just a day or two before the F&F day. Plus, all of her friends are out also, so I would have a hard time getting a room at the Navy Lodge, with no one there to act as my sponsor until JUST before the actual event. We'll see.......

whatever you do, do NOT ever book through cheapoair! this goes for everyone. better to book through a better known site like travelocity, expedia, etc. when i booked for singapore, they gave me such a headache. here's what they did to me: booked the flight and charged the credit card. WHILE the card was pending, the flight price went UP. so they cancelled my trip (while still charging me). good thing i double checked everything a few days later otherwise i'd have arrived to the airport and had no flight. :( bottom line, BIG hassle, big headache...all customer service calls go to india. ok, i'm done ranting ladies :) just want to spare all of you the headache!

Thanks for all the info everybody!! I'm not sure that this is even a "go" yet. Hoping that ticket prices come down some in the next month. IF anybody happens to be looking and comes across something for under $1000.00, please let me know!!

If you go to the Discussion Forum above and "View All", there are a couple links that are very informative regarding Navy Lodge and Passes if you are staying there. We did and it was wonderful.

the navy lodge is pretty reasonable, from what i heard. but my bf tells me that it gets booked up very fast. when i visit out there, my plan is just to get a hotel further from the base. he says i should look in the yokohama area. i THINK you have to actually call the navy lodge...not sure of a website or anything. but if you find out more info, please pass that along. :) thanks! i'm getting excited for you!

abc...her boyfriend already has a way for her to take a few days off without showing our "hand", so we'll see :>) Ticket prices are nasty, I have to check into the cost of the Navy Lodge at that time, as well as availability. Anybody out there know how to go about doing that?
