Hi all,
Claudia, I find that the frg and ombudsman groups are not really very informative. I also get most of my info via links to hotel sites :>)
SueS....Molly's adopt a sailor group is SO wonderful. Everyone out there....join up and vote vote vote!!!
Cheryle, I think it's WONDERFUL that you church group sends packages, nothing is to little or small to be appreciated I'm sure.
Mary, I have pretty consistently found that packages take about 10 days to get to them, even when they are out to sea.
Haven't checked on FB yet to see whether or not their upcoming port location has been posted yet, it doesn't look like it, or all us moms would have been "buzzing" about it big time :>)

According to an Associated Press article the USS John McCain will go into port at Vietnam but no mention was made of the GW. There are pictures on the FB USS GW site showing Vietnam military visiting the GW.

I do hope that the GW visits port soon because I would dearly love a Skype chat with our g'daughter.

it's to my knowledge that they will not actually be making aport stop in vietnam. they better not! :( from what i've been hearing, the gw had started "selling" hotel rooms to the sailors for their next port stop. which was not for vietnam. if anyone hears, please let me know in private. thanks!

millye~ i am so sorry for your loss. i know there isn't much i can say to make it better, but just know that we are all here! we may not know each other in person and come from all different walks of life, but we're all here with one thing in common. :) consider us your gw's family's family.

thanks for the update kelcie~ with that being said, i'm sure this gang issue is not really anything for us to worry about, thankfully!

to ant's mom, i understand as my sailor will be aboard the gw until the summer of 2012. i am not a mother of a sailor, but feel free to ask any questions as i'll be moving to japan this upcoming january and have been doing plenty of research! i will see you all in a week or so and will try to take pictures of the gw to post. take care all!

Millye, I cannot add any words to the wise and comforting words of the other moms. I just so hope that you and your family are able to find as much comfort as you can from the care of others and from Faith. Mollie, thank u for the update about the "gang" issue. I know it helps us all and I have trust that Kelcie knows the situation. I received a wonderful email from Anthony and he is staying another year on the GW. Will be taking some leave time. Based on this, I am going to try my best to go to Japan next Spring, so open to the advice of the other moms for planning such a trip.

Good morning all.....I finally remembered to ask Kelcie about the "gang" issue. She said that the "philipino mafia" is truly just a group of friends of philipine ethnicity that hang out together and is NOT A GANG at all, in the sense that we tend to think of gangs. Kelcie is an MA, so I trust that her info on the gang issue is pretty well on target. I was glad to hear it, as we moms already have enough on our minds regarding our kids safety with them being SO far away from home.

Millye, It is always so hard to lose a loved one, even when you are thankful that she is no longer in pain. I pray for healing peace for you and all of Brenda's family. I am glad that you were able to talk with Claire. I am sure that brightened your spirits.

Oh Millye, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have to agree with you though, we have the promise of seeing our loved ones again, in a perfect place. I don't know how people without faith make it through times like these without that promise to rest upon. My prayers will continue to be with you, your husband and all of your family, as even with that assurance, it still creates such a hole and loss within our hearts.
