Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Brandy, thanks for the info on magicjack. I have seen it advertised and have wondered about it. I will definitely check it out.
grandma....funny how the girlfriend/boyfriend always gets the most info, no matter how new the relationship is :>)
Thomas'Mom...glad to hear that he is letting go of the bitterness. That is REALLY a hard thing to do, especially when you are young, and it is SO unfair. Tell him that he's got a 100 moms in his corner, and let us know if there is anything we can do to help, at any time! Don't know where you are located, but if any assistance from N. Central California is ever needed, just let me know.

Mary, just be careful when ordering the phone cards, that you get the right one, and also, the first options for ordering that pop up are for "bulk" amounts of cards, just keep scrolling until you find the option to order individual cards, you don't want to inadvertently order 100 of them and have a $2000.00 charge :>)

My son is on the GW also, and I barely hear from him. But he tells me everything is ok with him. They just work for about 12hrs a day, and then sleep for 12hrs, they really don't have a day off. He does try to email me every now and then. He did call me early this morning. It is so good to hear that I am not the only mom who is sometimes worried or anxious to know when I will hear from my son.

grandma, I told Mary, (one of our new members) that I would post the link that you could order ship to shore phone cards from. My stupid server is in the process of reformatting and I can't access my "favorites" right now. Was it you that originally posted that link about a month and a half or two months ago? If so, could you post it again to Mary's attention. If it wasn't you, don't sweat it, my computer will (or else!) settle down soon and I can pull it up for her.

Hi Rabbitchick2010, welcome aboard. If your new hubby went directly on board, you should know that they keep them VERY busy, but that's no excuse for not contacting you!!!! Okay, I'll quit being a "mom" for a minute. If you don't hear from him soon, contact the GW Ombudsman and ask them to get a message to him that he NEEDS to contact you. If you need the email address to the Ombudsman, here it is gw3ombudsman@yahoo.com In all fairness to him, he might not know that his regular email will not work while aboard, so it might be a really good idea to have the ombudsman contact him with this info. Believe me, I have "sic'd" my daughter on a few of her shipmates that I have found out are not staying in contact like they SHOULD be. ANY way that we can help, we are all more than willing, just let us know. We can be quite the "force to be reconned with" :>)

It's strange for him because he has ALWAYS made a point to contact me or his parents once a weeks to simply say 'Hi, I miss you, I'm OK' while he's gone through BC, Corps school and Airman training but he hasn't been doing that since he left last month. We've had to be the ones to fight to get a hold of him. I keep reminding myself to be patient and pray for his safety and trust that everything's going alright for him wherever he may be right now, but it's still nice to hear from him even if it's for just a minute or two

He hasn't givien me a mailing address, he doesn't check his yahoo and he won't bother with asking for a military email. I haven't heard from him since before the 6th

hi rabbitchick! i'm pretty new here too and everyone is great :) i won't be able to help much because i am new to the navy thing too, but i'll be joining you as a "navy newlywed" soon!

Many thank you's to kathy and grandma for the encouraging messages. I was hoping to acquire help with figuring out how to send paperwork to my husband to be added as a dependent. I have been unsuccessful at reaching his email and I have no mailing address or phone to contact him at.

I'm an Air Force brat and a Navy newlywed and I was just wondering if anyone here would be willing to be a supportive shoulder for me. It would mean a great deal to have a couple people to talk to while my sailor is away.
