OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Got a phone call from our sailor this morning. He will be flying back to California in time for Father's Day. My husband is one happy camper this morning. Then he will be stationed at a base here in California for his turn at land duty. He will not longer be on the George Washington. Give all your sailors a hug and thank them from me for what they do. I probably won't be here as much.

GW FRG and Ombudsman both just posted that they will be back in port at approx 0900 Wednesday. You all probably already heard, but just wanted to be sure that the word got out :>)

Ginny, take a deep breath and realize that he will have a good job for another two years. What will be his assignment?

Sage advice, Sandra. Non-productive worry will not accomplish anything. Writing mundane notes about things around home, e.g., the cats got into a fight today, makes your sailor not feel so far from home.

I have begun a "silly" activity. Each week I send a note, with a picture from home on the front, and inside a memory or two of the past. I also number them on the outside in case several arrive at the same time. I have not yet heard whether they are appreciated or not but I hope that there will not be a mail call when my sailor gets nothing.

Also, my sailor asked, via e-mail, for me to send copies of the pictures that appear on the Facebook GW page. I haven't sent many but it's fun for them to see.

It was an "underway" not "deployment".

Yep katlanta, it definitely sounds like they are heading back to Yokosuka, but of course don't have an arrival date. The FRG website said that they will usually post that info about 72 hours ahead of time. Here is their link mailto:gwfrg73@yahoo.com. Hope it helps.

Yippee!!!!!! I also got an email saying that they would be back earlier than expected, but no actual time frame. Looking forward to hearing my sailors voice !!!!
