Great news, Lori. Is it not fun to get an e-mail? He will enjoy the package I am sure.

Tam....congrats! There is just something about that "Petty Officer" title that makes our chests swell up. Pride in our kids is a WONDERFUL thing isn't it? Lori...so glad you heard from "D" and now have his mailing address :>)

D's Mom, do you have the military e-mail address? If so, e-mail him with the request. I don't know how long it will be before he has access to a computer but eventually he will. Also, unless there is one shop for all parachute riggers, there may be different box numbers for PRs.

A PR is a parachutte rigger according to my hubby.

Hi Sandra, I pretty much hear from Kelcie every day, but I didn't hear anything from her yesterday. I think they have to fight for computer time, plus they are keeping them all VERY busy right now. Oh, yeah....Kelcie told me that communications were down yesterday, that's why....duh...."brain fart" either that or old age :>)

Hi Lori,
Have you tried the Yokosuka Mom's group? Is D based in Yokosuka or Atsugi? What exactly is a "PR" ? I've learned a lot of the "lingo", but certainly not all. Atsugi probably has a moms group also.

Hi D's mom-Lori..... sorry, looks like the info I gave you to use box 7 was inaccurate. It sounds like each department has a different box number. This is my 1st experience dealing with deployment, so I'm still learning myself. My daughter is an MA, so the box 7 might be limited to security personel. What is D's rate? Maybe another mom with a sailor in the same rate as his could get you the correct box number?

Sandy and D's Mom, I am a rookie to this cruise although I have had family serve with the Navy and sail with carriers. The conditions are so different than before, even when my brother served. Okay, as my granddaughter told me:

The mailing address on the GW when it is cruising is the same as when the ship is in port. Each sailor has a box number according to the department to which the sailor is assigned. My granddaughter has Unit xxxx and I asked my brother about that. He said it is the same thing as a box number. He also told me to use the address that I have used while she is in port. She is in Atsugi, where the airwing is.

They do not have Skype nor Internet. This is primarily a security issue. This means that they cannot use their normal e-mail. If they are in port, and if they have access to wifi, and have a computer, they will probably be able to use Skype. Don't know that for sure yet.

You can send something to the Navy email address but your sailor's access to a computer may be limited. It will depend upon the department. Some departments have more access than others. As I understand it, the e-mail may be censored, again a security issue.

If someone knows of other locations for photos/videos other than FB, I would love to know about them.

Other moms who have been through this before may be able to give us more information.

D's Mom, I was not familiar with the PR rate and so I looked it up. It appears that your son is a part of the air wing as is my granddaughter. She has a very different box number than 7. I think your idea of sending a letter before the package is a good one. I have also heard that if you get the letter to the GW, it will get delivered ... eventually. I have also been assured by my granddaughter that her ship address is the same as her in port address. Did your son give you the name of his Ombudsman? She may be able to help.

The GW Facebook page started posting their "Sailor of the Day". Be sure to look for your sailor. D's-Mom. The address is Box 7 FPO, AP 96650-2801, preceeded by your sailors name, and USS George Washington. I'm sure your sailor would LOVE to get a package from home.
