OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Millyee......if you see this, check your Page. I finally answered your two emails about trip to Japan. Sorry I did not get back to you sooner.

Natalie...nice to see a post. I still have not got my pictures sorted of Japan. You were johnny on the spot to get yours posted.

How lucky to see your daughter in the pictures. This is probably our sailors last "underway" on the GW. He is scheduled for land duty back in the States in June. He will be back in California and only a few hours away. As always, may the GW have safe travels.

Oh, Mom, then this is an especially big day for your daughter! Beating the odds is fantastic. Happy birthday to her.

Sorry I should have clarified. My oldest is a girl. The 2 that are in the Navy are boys 20 and 21. She is disabled and was not suppose to live past her 5th birthday. Her 4 brothers are so protective of her.

Yes, I definitely pitty the kitchen staff. All those hungry sailors, irked that they had to wait in line for chow. What a HUGE job they have. Hope all of our sailors remember to be gracious. I haven't heard complaints about the food either, just the lines. I told her that it will get smoother as time goes by.

Sandra, this will be my g'daughter's first cruise as well. If you figure out a way to stop worrying, please let me know! I take heart in that my Dad and two brothers were Navy pilots, so they came home safely from many cruises.

BigDMom, I reminded my g'daughter this morning that the cooks have a tough job and few are happy with them, so she should make a point to speak nicely to them. They will appreciate it ... I think. All jobs are essential to making the ship go.

Do the sailors have access to microwaves?

Be careful on the sweets. I sent my son the rest of his Xbox 360 games and I put them in a little binder insteadt of sending all the covers. But I put them in the largest bax the post office has and for the packing peanuts I used alot of candy from the Easter Bunny. LOLOLOL he said THANKS MOM. Timing SUCKS BIG TIME they had their PFA test the next day. He shared his candy with everyone.

My sailor said that "chow" is a MAJOR pain. Lines...lines....and more lines, and not very much time. It sounds like you did pretty much the same things that I did. I did throw in a box of pop tarts, sunflower seeds and corn nuts also. Gotta agree...cold spam sends cold chills up my spine:>) Also sending some power drinks (thank heavens for 'fixed rate" mailing boxes). It sounds to me like not only OUR sailors benefit from our care packages, but all of their friends also :>) Definately open to more ideas...anyone?
