cfsnowmom, one thing that always appears on wish lists for female soldiers/sailors is tampons and other toiletries. My granddaughter also said she could not find anti-fungal cream but it is recommended. What you are sending also will be welcomed.

DC-G'mother,
Your statement about limited knowledge reminds of that other famous one. Loose lips sink ships.

Never forget that the Navy is free to change its mind when a ship leaves on deployment. My brother was assigned to the Midway, which was the first forward deployed carrier. He laughs that one time he left for a 10-day shake-down cruise and pulled back into port four months later.

Kimi, while you won't have the luxury of daily chatting, and believe me it is a luxury, there will be times when they are in port plus limited e-mail. Then there is that old fashioned thing ... snail mail.

Remember, limited knowledge keeps our Sailors safer. We can't make a mistake if we know nothing. I suspect at times our enemies know more than we do but not always.

My sailor and his friend are both due for land duty within the next few months. Ours has written papers and both are on the stay behind list when the boat deploys. Have not heard anything about lack of funding.

Sue, I fixed up a care package with some things my granddaughter couldn't find at the NEX. There was still room so I raided the pantry. Later today my husband looked for some cookies we had just purchased. I told him I used the to fill the box ... all of them. I figured if she didn't eat them, there was bound to be helpers around to take care of them.

Ginny, I think they are getting ready to head out before long. This will be my granddaughter's first cruise. That should be an eye-opener!

Ginny Mattson,
Is your son going to re-enlist?

Girlyfries,
They could be doing shore duty on the base there in Yokosuko. My son was going TAD to Security. But it is on base.

Sandra,
My hubby says the ship usaully goes out for a week. Comes back to port then back out for 2 weeks. Comes back home. Then backout for 3 weeks. Comes back to port. Then out for their cruise (deployment). He isn't sure if that is what the GW will do.
