OK I agree if something is left out in the open and it is taken yes it is wrong. And the sailor needs to take some responsibility for it. But when something is LOCKED UP and it gets taken, then I have a real problem. That means someone picked the lock. Thats a problem.
I remember when I was working and we got a new supervisor, one of the first things out of her mouth in our first meeting with her was... She said in regards to purses, wallets or anything of value..If I am walking around and you are not at your desk and you leave something out like that she would take it and hide it. She did not do it to be mean but to help because some people did leave stuff out. She was the best supervisor I ever had.

My husband also said that stealing is not new to the Navy. I think I am going to send an email to the Ombudsman regarding this. Would someone on the ship not notify the person if they had a box at the mailroom? This is the first time I have had to deal with someone on a ship. With my husband having served 20 yrs and 12 days in the Navy he was never aboard a ship his whole career. He worked on a plane that was to big for the carriers.

I hated to have to call the Ombudsman. But I guess he does not understand the stress I am under due to his father. (my ex) I finally had to send him a email explaining everything going on in hopes that he would finally get it thru his head. I am not suppose to talk ill will of their father to the boys. But there comes a time when enough is enough and he is old enough that he better understand.

You would think that the people in charge of the GW would read posts on here. The RDC's from boot camp read posts on N4M all the time. And it would be ashame if someone gets into trouble for taking care of something that the security people should have already taken care of. UGH!!!!!

MooseMom,
If you have access to your son now make him go get a Power of Attorney before he goes to Japan. In case you have to take care of something in the states for him and he is out to sea. I had to call the Ombudsman of the ship to get this done because my son kept forgetting to take care of it. Well now we have some tax return issues that his father is causing and the IRS won't talk to me without the POA. And not to mention his father sold his car for him but I am still paying for car insurance for a car that he doesn't even own anymore. Can't cancel the ins without the POA. So it has been a very frustrating couple of weeks and then the theft of his phone.

It had a brand new xbox 360 game that he could not get there in Japan, his star card and a new bank card NFCU. I forgot to put the binder that has all his other 360 games in it. And I won't send it till he gets the box I sent already. I contacted NFCU to let them know about the card not getting to him yet and they ordered a new one to be sent to him at the branch there on base for him to go in and pick up. The star card I am watching the account and nothing has been charged on it.

I'll sign up and so would my husband. I sent my son a box on 2/19/10 and he has yet to receive it.

If you could only read my mind right now. Excuse the four letter words. And we wonder why people get away with so much stuff. Nobody cares to investigate anything. Because they are too lazy. And these are people guarding the gates of the base??
